The Sony PS3 Remote

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

If you buy a PS3, there’s a good chance you’re going to watch some Blu-Rays on it. Hell, a lot of people bought PS3s only to watch Blu-Rays. The purchase of a remote is almost absolutely essential if you don’t want to mess around with the awkward and confusing controls found on the game controller.

Likes:

I think the like column on this one is pretty easy. It’s a friggen remote that has clear labels, so it makes navigating through Blu-Rays an ease.

Eject button? Hell yeah.

It also has the potential of being a one handed controller, if you know what I mean.

So What Did You Get?

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Well Christmas is here and hopefully you got some good presents this year, because you totally deserved them. Now I want to hear if you got any video game related presents. Was it the year you finally got a Wii? Or moved into the world of the big boys with the 360 or PS3? Or was it just some games?

What About Me?

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

So over the holidays I’ve noticed a disturbing trend. None of my friends are playing Xbox Live or are on their PS3s, so I’ve got nobody to play with online other than complete strangers. What gives, people? I realize that you may have “family” and “friends” to visit and spread holiday cheer to, but what about me? While you’re out selfishly hanging out in social gatherings stuffing your face with holiday treats I’m out in the virtual cold with nobody to care about me.

Contra Movie: Greatest Thing Ever

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Uwe Boll jokes are about as funny to me as Chuck Noriss jokes or hating on Jack Thompson. Not only have all three concepts been beaten to death, but I can’t understand why people like to pick on the guy. He’s clearly retarded and can’t make a movie. It’s not funny anymore, it’s just sad.

Cammy Comes to Street Fighter IV

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

I like Street Fighter and I have been looking forward to someday playing it when it hits consoles, but now I’m a lot more invested in owning the game when it does come out for one reason only, the addition of Cammy to the ranks of the World Warriors.

Used Game Sales Kill Babies

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

The issue of whether or not the practice of buying and selling used games is totally an evil thing to do has been coming up quite a bit in the last few months. Game makers, retailers, and consumers have been bouncing like a ping pong ball back and forth over the morality of the whole issue. Lately, the argument was over how much it hurts the sales of new games.

Smoke on the Rock Band

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

I haven’t played Rock Band 2 in awhile and I feel pretty guilty about it, because I was so obsessed with the first game. I think if I make some time with it and get some new songs I may just fall in love with Rock Band again. I don’t think something like the Rock Band Stage Kit will do a whole lot to make me want to spark my near obsession the game once had over me. It doesn’t look like it does a whole lot for these guys:

It’s cool that the machine is in sync with the song via whatever demon magicks that fuel it, but yeah this is nothing that anyone really needs to add to their gaming experience. To be fair though, having the fog machine on the couch doesn’t really add to any kind of rocking experience. I think if the singer and guitarists were standing that it might help just a smidgen.

The ‘08 VGA: Glad I missed It

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

While other responsible video game related bloggers were all reporting on the Spike TV Video Game Awards this last weekend you didn’t see a peep on here. Why? Well, I’ll tell you why. I didn’t watch the Spike TV video games awards, because I’m smart.

10 Most Dissapointing Games of ‘08

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Wired recently published their list of the top ten most disappointing games of ‘08. There weren’t many surprises on the list, except for maybe Dead Space. I wouldn’t say it was disappointing so much as it didn’t really end up living up to the horror aspect. There’s also the atrocious lack of Wii Music, but maybe they hadn’t anticipated that one as much as the other games on the list.

Here’s the list in full, but you have to go to the site to read their reasoning behind their picks:

Testing Out Home

Friday, December 12th, 2008

So last night I got to try out Playstation Home like many other PS3 owners. After downloading a huge system update, installing that, then downloading Home, and then installing it, and then trying three or four times to get into the program I finally got to the create a character screen. Seriously, the PS3 is the worst console in terms of being able to just turn the system on and do something.

Since this is a Beta, there weren’t many clothing options, but there were a lot of customizations for how your avatar looks. It’s much better looking and not half as retarded as Microsoft’s NXE avatars. With the limited clothing options though, so far everyone is wearing the same freaking shirt and pants combo.

My biggest complaint with the character creation is that there are currently no goatees or soul patches. WTF?! How are us that saw our glory years in the ’90s supposed to represent ourselves? Even worse, how can I make my modern era Billy Ray Cyrus without a soul patch?! I couldn’t even make Achy Breaky era Cyrus, due to a lack of mullets. Lame!

There’s not a whole lot to do in Home at the moment. It’s more of a glorified chat room. You can be retarded and buy clothes and furniture for your doll house, but I’m not really into that. It’s also a huge sausage-fest as the population is 90% dudes with the rest most likely being dudes who are pretending to be chicks with about a 1% margin for chicks that are really chicks.

It’s also fun to see people running around and yelling at each other. I don’t get enough smack talk in my online multiplayer shooters, so it’s nice to hear more of it when I’m cruising around a pretend mall. Oh and speaking of the mall, it’s ultra lame that you have to download each new location. The PS3 is good at being a games machine, a Blu-Ray player, and something I can either stare at or read a book while it downloads and then installs something. It’s just like having a PC in my living room!

So far Home is decent if you like pretending to dance with other dudes, but if you don’t like doing that… you might want to just go and play some games.

Finally, I Can Hump My Games

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

I’ve been a long time proponents of adult video games (but not the kind with naked cartoon chicks) and there has been a company that has finally answered my long desired wish: I want to hump my games.

Ghost Busters: I’m Busting Something

Monday, December 8th, 2008

The new Ghost Busters trailer was reveled sometime last week and in the interest of trying to catch up on this here video game related blog, I thought I’d post it in case you hadn’t happen to see it:

My wife just had to get a wet rag for the keyboard after I watched that. I seriously got chills from this, chills. I realize I’m not your everyday nerd, but when you’re a child of the ’80s like myself, you might just understand my deep love for Ghostbusters. It’s almost looking like this game is the movie that Ghostbusters II should have been.

John Connor Sucks at Gears of War

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

On Monday night’s Sara Conner Chronicles (the Terminator TV show) future savior John Connor was forced to play a game of Gears of War 2 against some d-bag at a party. At first it looked like John Connor would win, I mean how could he not? He’s responsible for saving all of humanity in the future robot wars. If anyone would know how to kick ass in a war simulation, it would be John Conner. Unfortunatly, young Mr. Connor needs to bone up on his video game playing skills, because he got his ass seriously handed to him. You didn’t really get to see the curb stomping he suffered, but a Gears of War player knew what was going on due to the embarrassing squish noise that accompanied young Connor’s defeat.
