New ‘The Cult of Rapture’ BioShock Screens

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

wrench.jpg

2K has released a couple of BioShock screenshots in an interesting sort of way. Rather than just releasing new screenshots, they have actually turned these screenshots into a story of sorts. Basically, they give a screenshot and a little story on what’s going on in the screenshot. The whole point is to ask the visitors of the official BioShock website how they would kill the grenadier.

Sega Master System Games on the Wii?

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

mastersystem1.jpg

Rumor Reporter is saying that Sega will be releasing Master System games to Nintendo for the Virtual Console. I definitely hope this happens. Most people in the U.S. back in the day of the NES did not own a Master System. I was actually a Sega guy long before I had a Nintendo of any kind. The Master System had some great games. Some of those included Alex Kidd, Shinobi, Outrun, Phantasy Star, Wonder Boy, Fantasy Zone 2, Sonic Chaos, Psycho Fox and many others. In my opinion the SMS was far superior to the NES but just didn’t make the market impact in the United States. We’ll have to see how things go, but it would make me particularly happy to play the old Master System games once again.

SimCity DS *Officially* Announced for US release

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

simcityblow.jpg

EA sure knows how to announce the release of upcoming games. I mean, first the surprise announcement of MySims coming out to the Nintendo Wii & DS, and now this surprise.

SimCity DS is *officially* coming to the Nintendo DS this summer. Expect some cool Nintendo DS integration like blowing to put out fires in your city, or signing mayoral proclamations with the stylus (I hope there’s a “make prostitution legal” proclamation available)

The official press release follows.

Sony Updates PS3 Firmware to 1.54 [Update]

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

playstation3.jpg

Looks like Sony has a new firmware update for the PS3. Next time you turn on your PS3, it will come up as a mandatory update. Currently, the US Playstation site shows nothing about this update, but the Japanese Playstation site, through google translate, states that the firmware update might have something to do with the ability to connect a digital camera to the PS3 through USB cable and being able to view the pictures and the AV-Chat has a zoom feature.

When we get the official word on what exactly has been updated, we’ll be sure to update you guys.

[Update: Here’s what’s been officially updated:

  • The image of the person you are chatting with during video chat can now be changed to match the screen size.
  • You can now use a USB camera compatible with USB video class (UVC) for video chat.]

Rockstar To Employ Star Wars Tech In “Upcoming Next-Gen Games”

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

It seems that the NaturalMotion’s euphoria engine is going to make it’s way into the next GTA.

Employed in the recently revealed The Force Unleashed, euphoria simulates the human body and motor nervous system. It means that in-game characters are fully interactive and always react differently to external influences, ultimately leading to a more life-like experience for the player.

This is a great move by Rockstar because for all of you who have played a GTA game know, the graphics and physics really aren’t that ground-breaking. If you team up GTA with a really great physics engine and next-gen graphics, then this could very well be one GTA that will sell in record numbers.

Video: GRAW 2 TV Spot Trailer

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Last night, I was watching Dirty Jobs on Discovery and I happened to catch the new TV ad for GRAW 2. The commercial was pretty damn good, and boy do I wish the graphics in-game could really be this good.

Anyways, I checked out the Ubisoft website to see if it was available and low-and-behold it was. Enjoy!

VG Cats Takes on Wario-Ware

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

vgcatswii.jpg

I’m a huge fan of VG Cats, and I’m still trying to recover from their latest comic. The comic chronicles through one of the main characters playing through a friendly game of Wario-Ware. Some of the baton holding screens are pretty weird already, but VG Cats really takes it to another level.

$599 Blu-Ray Player that ISN’T a PS3

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

That’s right, the one thing Sony had been vocal about before and after the PS3 launched was how it was a bargain because not only was it a PS3, but it was also an added Blu-Ray DVD player.

Well, it seems that Sony is going to make their Blu-Ray players a lot more affordable. Starting with the BDP-S300 player, which will come out in the summer and retail for $599. The reason behind the drop in price is because Sony had been facing sluggish sales of it’s stand-alone Blu-Ray players.

I would think the reason their sales have been sluggish is because who would pay $1000+ for a Blu-Ray player when you can get a PS3, which includes a Blu-Ray player, for $600. Now that the BDP-S300 player is set to come out in the summer, the PS3 might be in a little bit of trouble. Hopefully Sony can update the PS3’s software library with must-have titles real soon before the BDP-S300 player hits stores.

EA *Officially* Announces MySims + Trailer

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

mysims_screenshot_2.jpg

OK, who here really didn’t know anything about the upcoming Sims game for the Wii and Nintendo DS called MySims, raise your hand?

That’s what I thought. Everybody who reads video game websites can tell you they’ve seen the articles and the trailers before. But today, EA *officially* announced MySims! Thank god! Now we can all finally openly talk about it without getting the “exnay” look from EA. MySims is slated to be released this coming Fall on both the Nintendo Wii and DS and will most likely rule your lives like every other sim game has.

I’m actually pretty excited about this title since you can pretty much create everything in the town from the ground up, and your not necessarily stuck in one house taking care of your character like past sims games. Instead, you are focusing on the community and all of the different people in your community and how to properly interact with them.

Come back after the break for the trailer and *official* press release.

Here’s an interesting video on a controller hack for the Wii. Mark Feldman was actually able to add wireless capabilities to his old NES and SNES controllers to work on the Wii.

Hacker Teams Unite To Battle Sony

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

sony-psp-g.jpg

According to the BBC, three hacker teams united in their efforts against Sony and their PSP protections. Noobz, Team C+D, and a group led by PSP hacker Dark Alex discovered a fatal flaw in Sony’s most recent PSP firmware release 3.03. The team discovered a way to unlock all PSPs, regardless of the age of the device or the firmware it is running. This is a huge victory for homebrew applications that should be running wild very soon.

The value of their new discovery is that the PSP can be completely unlocked and still have all the features of the latest firmware which was not previously possible.

We’ll have to see how long it takes for Sony to put out a new firmware that these guys can’t crack. The hackers naively believe what they are doing is legal, but I’m not going to complain.
