Ghostbusters in Motion

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

The latest Ghostbusters: The Video Game trailer is up and man oh man it’s getting me all kinds of excited:

The game itself better not suck, because this has potential to be the coolest thing ever. How could it not be? It’s the unofficial Ghostbusters III with all the main talent on board (No, I don’t count Rick Moranis) and even most of the secondary types. Hell, it could almost be better than a movie, because you won’t be distracted by the ravages of age on the main actors. Dan Aykroyd’s almost more frightening than any of the ghosts.

Ubisoft Claims Sony PSP Is Finished At Hands Of DS

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

When the PSP was first announced by Sony, all of the elements were there for it to be a huge success - brilliant graphics, a great games line-up, the Playstation brand etc. Unfortunately for Sony, sales never really managed to light up the world as they were expected to, and the Nintendo DS then came in and provided a cheaper, more casual alternative. The PSP has never really recovered, but is it now too late for a recovery?

GI.biz recently interviewed Ubisoft’s UK managing director Rob Cooper, and he had some not very pleasant things to say about the platform, and the direction, or lack of it, that Sony is heading in.

LucasArts Thinking About Re-releasing Classic Games

Friday, June 6th, 2008

In news that made me as giddy as a school girl, LucasArts is thinking about re-releasing some of their classic adventure games on the Nintendo Wii. Lucas Arts is quoted as stating:

“We have looked at it,” admits Norris. “It is something we are continually looking at - new venues to put out our library of games on. We’re not announcing anything about that because honestly I don’t know anything about it.”

“The cart size of the DS makes it impossible to put out ports of any of our old graphic adventures,” claims Gullett. “There’s literally not enough room on those carts to put the games out.”

“It could still happen,” rallies Gullet. “We’ve got a lot of pride in our heritage and it’s definitely something we’re still leaving open.”

If there was any way possible to do so, it must be done. Newer generations should be exposed to games like Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle (I still have my Corley Motors T-shirt). Hell, there’s even licensed games like Sam and Max Hit the Road or Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis that need to see the light of day again. The Nintendo DS would be a fantastic platform for these kinds of games, but if the cartridge is too small then there’s not much you can do about that. The Nintendo Wii would be a decent way to play these games considering their point and click interface, so why aren’t these available as downloads on the Wii Virtual Console yet?

Nintendo Profits Rise Massively On Strength Of Wii & DS Sales | Upping Production To Stop Shortages

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Nintendo are having a good year. That’s a slight understatement but it’s the main thrust of the latest press release to come from the company’s headquarters, as it reports a massive surge in profits for the last twelve months.

Net profit rose 47.7% to a record high over the last fiscal year, after the phenomenal success of the Wii and DS, both of which have exceeded expectations, and beaten all rivals in their field.

The net profit for the Nintendo group as a whole was ¥257.34 billion, or $2.5 billion. So just a slightly successful year for the Kyoto, Japan based company then.

Boobs + Atari = Awesome

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I’m a huge fan of boobs. If you don’t love boobs, there’s something wrong with you. Hell, even gay dudes appreciate boobs! That’s why when I read that Atari was using boobs to sell a crossword puzzle game for the Nintendo DS called The Sun Crossword Challenge I thought, now that’s a company that knows what it’s doing. No, I’m not being sarcastic. I’m much rather see boobs than any other method of advertisement. If you’re lucky enough to live in London and have time to ogle hot women, then you’re in luck. This Friday (April 16th) page 3 girls Vikki Blows and Sam Cooke will be at London Victoria Station to help people solve a giant crossword puzzle. The Atari crossword puzzle game they are promoting will be available to play as well, but really who cares about that?

If you don’t know what a Page 3 girl is, then let me educate you. You see in Europe they aren’t so uptight about the human form and in England they have a newspaper called the Sun that has topless models. Talk about a utopia.

New Releases: Week of March 30th, 2008

where all the white women at

Firstly, apologies for not getting the New Releases up on Sunday as I usually do. I have had a wedding, a birthday, and even a concert (go Mars Volta!) to go to in the past 3 days, so I have been quite the busy bee.

However, I don’t think anyone has missed much having no release list, as I can count the amount of releases this week on one hand (and a few toes). No ‘HD’ ‘Next Gen’ gaming going on here, it is Wii, DS, PS2, and the PC fighting for who can release the worst game. My bet is on the PS2 only because they should stop making games for the system already! As far as why there is no games, I am guessing because of things to come.. Mario Kart… Grand Theft Auto.. etc. Companies know you are probably saving your money for the big names so no use to put out competition that won’t sway you from the franchises. Now onto the very short list this week, after the break:

20080323_newreleases.jpg

Looking over this weeks releases, I noticed right away a few titles that need some love. Of course there is still some reoccurring franchises, such as Final Fantasy (PSP), Harvest Moon (DS), and even Ninja Gaiden (DS). Solid games in their own right, but they can wait, a new RPG is in town, Opoona (Wii), which has me curious as all hell how the game will play out with using only the nunchuck. Dark Sector is out on the big boy systems, having been announced way back in 2004, the game looks to bring some new elements to the third person action gunner genre, if anything, you can rest easy knowing they didn’t rush this title.

Onto the full list, as always, after the break:

‘Guitar Hero: On Tour’ For Nintendo DS Revealed | New Guitar Grip Peripheral Looks Awkward

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

‘Guitar Hero: On Tour’ For Nintendo DS Revealed

A couple of weeks ago, rumours were abound of a version of Guitar Hero being made for the Nintendo DS. They came about after Australia’s Office of Film & Literature Classification, gave Guitar Hero: On Tour a ‘G’ rating on March 4th, effectively letting the cat out of the bag.

Now, we have proof of the existence of the game after Activision officially announced the game through a press release.

The game is scheduled for release this summer, and will work by way of a new peripheral, called the Guitar Hero Guitar Grip, which slips over the back of your DS (as seen in the picture above) to turn it in to an electric guitar, as well as top selling portable games machine.

The game will also come with a Guitar Hero pick stylus enabling DS owners to strum their way to fame and fortune, at least in terms of a Guitar Hero career.

New Releases: Week of March 16th, 2008

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

20080316_newreleases.jpg

This week in releases brings us some pretty solid titles all around, especially for Sony (if you don’t count the PSP). Though released earlier on the 360, Condemned is here on the PS3 along with Hot Shots Golf. Even the PS2 is getting some love in the form of a “must have for any PS2 owner” set, being the Metal Gear Solid collection, if you don’t have ‘em yet, let me say again.. “must have!” Sega seems to have their hands in almost every system now with Superstars Tennis.

The “winner” of this week imo, has to go out to the highly anticipated Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Of course only time will tell if people are able to get their grubby hands off of Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, or Smash Bros Brawl to give Vegas 2 a chance, but something tells me the game will due just fine with the cult fan base Tom Clancy seems to have. Full list, after the break:

New Releases: Week of March 9th, 2008

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

So what are you doing reading this? Is there no Toys R Us, Best Buy, Circuit City, Blockbuster, Wal Mart… ANY store open !? Because you better be just taking a 5 minute break from playing Smash Bros if you are browsing the net.

If you don’t have a Wii still (understandably), I will excuse you from not playing Super Smash Bros Brawl, however you can still own the game! In a smart move by everyone else, not much is on the other systems this week. Condemned 2 is out, that is a very solid title for those in the “next gen.” PES for your football (soccer) fanatics.

New Releases: Week of March 2nd, 2008

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

This week brings us a not very spectacular week in gaming, but not the worst I have seen either. The big dog comes in the form of God of War: Chains of Olympus on the PSP, not only is it looking to be one of the top ten PSP games just upon its release (not a lot of compitition mind you), but it also brought with it the announcement of God of War III. On the other systems, Bully is out on 360 and Wii for those who did not get to enjoy this title on it’s PS2 release (like myself). If you are into baseball, this is definitly your week no matter what system you own. To finish things out, Homie Rollerz (DS) is finally out, I know you all had your copy on reserve for a while now, so time to head out to the store and pick it up. Now onto the full list:

Disney Announces ‘Ultimate Band’ For Nintendo Wii & DS - New Competitor For Guitar Hero & Rock Band?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

It was bound to happen. As with every other industry, you get a successful game, and then a whole host of imitators. Guitar Hero was the original game to put you, the gamer, in the role of member of a band, and then Rock Band took the idea and ran with it, allowing you to choose to be a singer, guitarist or drummer. Now there is to be a new addition to the genre, in the form of Ultimate Band from Disney.

The game will only be available on the Nintendo consoles, Wii and DS, mainly due to the fact that Disney Interactive were keen to keep costs to the gamer down by doing away with the need for any expensive add-on peripherals. So the game, when it gets a release in the fall, will use the Wiimote, and touchscreen respectively. Gamers will be able to play lead guitar, bass, and drums, using just a combination of the already existing controllers.

New Releases: Week of February 24th, 2008

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

This week in releases brings us a new Destroy All Humans, a not too shabby video game adaptation of the tv series Lost, and my favorite game early in the 360’s life cycle, Lost Planet. Though I have other games that grab my attention now, there is still a piece of my heart reserved for this series, I am glad now PS3 owners can share in the love. Though I will admit I am a bit jealous, as the PS3 version does include all the downloadable maps that I ended up having to pay for… AND.. it is only $40 right now (I guess there is also that free online play element to add to the jealous rage). Once you experience Lost Planet’s multiplayer maps, you will never look at any other shooting game’s maps the same again, I wish as much care went into other games as Capcom invested in this gem. Now onto the list!

New Releases: Week of February 17th, 2008

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Well, every week can’t be full of winners, and this week proves that. If you are on the 360, I am sure you haven’t beat Lost Odyssey in just one week. Not an RPG fan? Perhaps then some Pimping of your Ride on the Wii or helping law abiding citizens with Apollo Justice on the DS is more suited for you (No DS? check out the Flash Demo of the game here, very cool). Check out the full list below, lots of GameFly queue material here:

Won’t You Take Me to.. Ninjatown

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

I hope you made sure to read that title outloud to yourself to the tune of “Funkytown.”

Southpeak games has sent me a little zip file containing 4 new pics of their upcoming DS release, Ninjatown. What is Ninjatown? Well let me fill you up with as much information as I could find… which isn’t much more than what I seen DESTRUCTOID’s own Hamza CTZ Aziz had found with some internet Matlockery:

  • It’s an action-strategy game
  • There will be gameplay phases (building and combat)
  • You can level up Ninjas and create buildings
  • Fighting will have some puzzle elements
  • Other interesting notes: Created by ex-EGM staff Shawn Smith. From the way he worded the description for the game I am guessing this is going to play very similar to those “Tower Defense” games, which if you don’t know, is a very good thing (click here to play an example of this). This is just my guess though, how specifically this will play is still yet to be seen. Check the screens below.

In addition to the above, I give you a trailer (attempt to stay seated while watching, I cannot however, stop you from bobbing your head to the beat):
