Guitar Hero Action Figures… wait… what?

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Normally this is something I’d cover on the toy blog, but since that site is perpetually down, you get the full on toy coverage here, so if this is too “inside the toy world” for you, then I’m sorry. Anyway, McFarlane Toys recently announced that they are making a series of action figures from the Guitar Hero games. Included in their initial line up are characters from the Guitar Hero games Johnny Napalm, Lars Ümlaut, Axel Steel, and God of Rock.

From what I can see on the internets, the response has been pretty underwhelming. Does anyone really want these figures? Unless you’re really into Guitar Hero then I’m guessing no. The broadest appeal figure in this line up is God of Rock, because he’s um… God holding a guitar, but even then I’d have to guess that there might be a limited audience for this.

What is really annoying for toy fans is that McFarlane Toys (the guy behind Spawn and lots of sports themed action figures) announced that they were canceling their original lines to focus soley on licensed products just a few weeks ago. It’s a crime that instead of getting kick ass sculptures of dragons and what not, McFarlane is now producing this kind of garbage. Okay, garbage may be a bit harsh, but I can think of a lot of other toys that would be cooler than Guitar Hero toys. Reallly the game is about the music, not the stupid avatars.

Gears of War Figure Updates

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

If you’re looking to get your hands on a miniature Marcus Fenix or Locust, then your dreams are almost coming to fruition because they are already on store shelves. However if you prefer to get them all at once, then toy maker NECA has something just for you. They’ve packaged together the entire stable of Gears of War figures that are currently available into one box for about 65 bucks on some web sites.

If you also happen to be in San Diego for the 2008 Comic Con and you’re a Gears of War fan, NECA’s Gears of War exclusive will be Carmine, everyone’s favorite helmeted target. If you’re not going to the con, then expect to shell out a few bucks for it on the secondary market (i.e. eBay).

Halo Maps Are Now Free! And Toy News!

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Hey cheap-asses, remember that the Halo 3 Heroic Map Pack is now free so don’t forget to download it as soon as you can. I’d love to tell you how great or bad they are because I am indeed a cheap ass. I would love to download the Heroic map pack today, but my XBox is still not back in my hands after it’s unfortunate bout of the red ring of suck.

Gears of War Figures

Monday, January 21st, 2008

As Paco mentioned in a previous post, I’m the resident toy nut of 451 Press. Recently, I ran across the news that the Gears of War figures that had been announced way back in August had finally been revealed. Here’s one of the images of them in all their glory:

In a shameless plug, I will now direct you toward where I talk about the figures more extensively. Yeah, I know it’s kind of lame but I can only say so much about these things!
