Overlord II Screenshots Ahoy

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Overlord was the rare game that was fun, funny, and pretty good. Sure the thing had it’s faults, but it was damn fun being a bad guy controlling a mob of hilariously devoted minions. While never having beaten the game*, I enjoyed myself thoroughly and if you haven’t played it at all I’d recommend picking up a copy since it’s got to be fairly cheap by now. Anyway, some screenshots of Overlord II have surfaced and I’m pretty jazzed for a return to the goblin controlling humanity stomping action of the first game. Overlord II promises to have smarter minions and even more exciting, minions who can ride on wolves and other magical creatures. Awesome!

*I meant to finish it, then my hard drive crashed and wiped out my save file making it less than desirable to go back and start from the beginning. Thanks shitty hard drive!

Mortal Kombat vs DC Comics Preview - No Fatalities!

Mortal Kombat vs DC Comics Preview - No Fatalities!

Wow, this is a game I never expected to see happen. Imagine all your favourite Mortal Kombat characters, my personal favourite was always Raiden, going up against all your favourite DC Comics characters, you can’t beat Batman for a dark superhero. Now put that all in a video game and watch the results… pretty awesome huh?

Well, it’s happening, and Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Comics will be coming to a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 near you this Fall after Midway officially announced the game in Las Vegas this week. They also issued a press release, and some early preview game footage that you can see embedded below:

As excited as I am at the prospect of this game, and I am, honest, I’m also pretty disappointed by that footage, as it looks ropey at best. Superhero games are notoriously difficult to get right, and it doesn’t look like Midway are anywhere near achieving a good result at this point in time. Let’s hope the three months of development time they have left improves the feel of the game.

I’m also disappointed by the rumours circulating which indicate that there will be “no fatalities and little-to-no blood” in the game. That’s not me saying it, but rather a former Midway employee who decided to leak the info to Kotaku.

‘Guitar Hero: On Tour’ For Nintendo DS Revealed | New Guitar Grip Peripheral Looks Awkward

‘Guitar Hero: On Tour’ For Nintendo DS Revealed

A couple of weeks ago, rumours were abound of a version of Guitar Hero being made for the Nintendo DS. They came about after Australia’s Office of Film & Literature Classification, gave Guitar Hero: On Tour a ‘G’ rating on March 4th, effectively letting the cat out of the bag.

Now, we have proof of the existence of the game after Activision officially announced the game through a press release.

The game is scheduled for release this summer, and will work by way of a new peripheral, called the Guitar Hero Guitar Grip, which slips over the back of your DS (as seen in the picture above) to turn it in to an electric guitar, as well as top selling portable games machine.

The game will also come with a Guitar Hero pick stylus enabling DS owners to strum their way to fame and fortune, at least in terms of a Guitar Hero career.

Screenshots that will make you love Halo 3 Again

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

heretic_dance.gifI know I can’t be the only person who has fallen prey to Call of Duty 4. Sometimes though, when you look past the huge amount of overhypeness (is that a word?!) that Halo 3 received, you still can find a solid shooter with a ton of still exclusive features, as well as it just being a very pretty game.

NeoGAF has started up a screenshot thread that has made me re-look at the beauty this game has. Using the capture mode that Bungie has provided (and still I wonder why it isn’t standard in all games now), gamers on GAF have shared both action packed and beautifully artistic screens, please take a gander at some of these pictures that borderline being called art, keep in mind as you take them all in, these are in game shots taken from players, not photoshoped/faked/etc. Start viewing after the break:

Won’t You Take Me to.. Ninjatown

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

I hope you made sure to read that title outloud to yourself to the tune of “Funkytown.”

Southpeak games has sent me a little zip file containing 4 new pics of their upcoming DS release, Ninjatown. What is Ninjatown? Well let me fill you up with as much information as I could find… which isn’t much more than what I seen DESTRUCTOID’s own Hamza CTZ Aziz had found with some internet Matlockery:

  • It’s an action-strategy game
  • There will be gameplay phases (building and combat)
  • You can level up Ninjas and create buildings
  • Fighting will have some puzzle elements
  • Other interesting notes: Created by ex-EGM staff Shawn Smith. From the way he worded the description for the game I am guessing this is going to play very similar to those “Tower Defense” games, which if you don’t know, is a very good thing (click here to play an example of this). This is just my guess though, how specifically this will play is still yet to be seen. Check the screens below.

In addition to the above, I give you a trailer (attempt to stay seated while watching, I cannot however, stop you from bobbing your head to the beat):

Street Fighter IV - Scans, Characters, and More

Thursday, February 7th, 2008 has posted up the screenshots from their own magazine (here and here, if you receive a 404 error, click on your address bar and hit enter). For those who don’t read Japanese (me!), a forum member has posted a pretty decent translation of an interview with producer Yoshinori Ono. Keep on reading for the highlights from that interview:

    Adios, Boys and Girls

    Friday, January 11th, 2008

Ladies and Gents it pains me to say my farewells to 1PStart. I’ve been here only a short time, though I’ve been at Xbox 360 Rally (another 451 site) for just under a year. I will miss you guys, though you’re probably throwing a party, chanting “he’s leaving! Huzzah! Huzzah!”. If you do miss me, though, you can find me at my new home

It’s been fun, and I hope to see y’all around.

P.S.: Qbix — E-mail me, dude. I’m still gonna get your GTA IV to ya.

    Merry Christmas Gamers, from Playboy

    Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

It seems the newest issue of Playboy (featuring some cover girl named Kim Kardashian, whoever that is), has a feature on video game girls. Specifically, and in order of the pictures below, are:

Keaira - Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Yoko Retomoto - Kane & Lynch
Church and Black - Clive Barker’s Jericho
    Moreen - The Witcher
    A’Kanna - Conan
Sarah Morrison - Richard Garriott’s Tabula Rosa

With each very respectable artful pose of the characters is a little background on the characters. Remember people, before viewing the pictures, I am warning they are NOT SAFE FOR WORK. These are not porn pictures, they are video game girls so no fapping please kids. This is Playboys fourth year in doing this (first I’ve heard), either way, enjoy::

    Tomb Raider Underworld Screens

    Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Crystal Dynamics has been able to do a hell of a job in reinventing the Tomb Raider franchise, returning it to it’s once glorious former self and making the game’s lead, Lara Croft, relevant once again. So it should come as no surprise to anybody that Crystal Dynamics would go right back to the well and give us another Tomb Raider game — and that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Tomb Raider fansite “Tomb Raider Chronicles” has come across some screenshots for the next entry in the series, Tomb Raider Underworld. You can see all of the screenshots after the break, but allow me to just say… it’s nice to see her back in top form.

Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII Extended Trailers and Screens

Lets get right to it, the Final Fantasy Verus XIII trailer, hit after the break for the Final Fantasy XIII trailer:

You excited about Devil May Cry 4? Sure you are. Well, to hold you over until it’s February 5th, 2008 release, here are 33 new screenshots showing off two of the new enemies being introduced to the franchise, the Echidna and the Assault.

    Assault (13)

    Echidna (20)

NOTE: If not for the soothing sounds of David Bowie, I’d have lost my damn mind uploading all of these.

Pirates vs. Ninjas vs. Zombies in Dodgeball!

    Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Blazing Lizard has revealed the third team that will be featured in their debut title, Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, will in fact be zombies. Spooky. If you aren’t aware of what PvND is, I’ll summarize for you: Take the evernal struggle between the noble ninja and the scurvy-ridden pirate, and settle the long-standing fued on the fields of battle.

    With dodgeballs.

And now, zombies. (I still want my lumberjack team, Stockman! You hear me?!)

Pictures and the press release after the break.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix - Screens

    Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

First, we here at 1pstart are all about the quality, and because of that, JW or myself did not post a video that had made the rounds over the streaming flash video sites recently. Seeing as how the title has “HD” right in it, it didn’t make sense to show a video of it running with it looking so pixelated. Now, I don’t want to deny anybody the pleasure of watching a beautiful game look terrible, so if you want, after the break I have embedded the video so you can see it, however, I just ask you first check these screenshots first:

So crisp and beautiful. Not only are these pretty, but on the Capcom blog they even try to apologize and make excuses why even these screens do not show how good the game will look. Now for those who have any desire to do so, check below for the video of an early build of the game running.

Gran Turismo 5 - Now Featuring “Top Gear” Track

    Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Gran Turismo is one of those staple franchises that is able to keep outdoing itself with each previous rendition of the game. To ensure that this won’t be just another pretty looking racing sim, Polyphony Digital have partnered up with BBC Worldwide to not only offer downloads for episodes of “Top Gear” from the Playstation Network, but will also allow gamers to play on the test track used on the show. For now however, enjoy the $43 demo until a release date is finally settled (available for 3 weeks only, so get it now).

Notice the header image for this post not having anything to do with Top Gear? Well that is because it is from a set of comparison pictures going around from the Suzuka Circuit, showing how detailed this game is coming along, check the full picture set below for all comparisons, if the pictures didn’t have the HUD on screen, I would find it difficult to believe you’d be able to find the difference.
