Game Ads From the Days of Yore: Genesis Does What Nintendon’t

by Paul

Since the last Game Ads from the Days of Yore went so well (a whopping 0 comments!), I figured it was time for another outing. This time we take a look at Sega propaganda.

To fully appreciate this advertising campaign, we must realize that this was during the days of the N.E.S. dominance and the Sega Genesis was brand new. At that time, Genesis really could do what Nintedidn’t. When I was younger, these ads left a really strong impression because the graphics on display were fugging fantastic. They were nearly arcade quality and they nearly made me crap my pants whenever I saw the ads. What the Genesis really didn’t have yet was a system selling powerhouse known as Sonic the Hedgehog. Of course, Nintendo didn’t have it’s mega weapon known as the Super N.E.S., so it was a very odd time in video game history, one where the less powerful console was actually the better one.
