Capcom’s WonderCon 2008 Lineup

by Paul

This last weekend I managed to attend WonderCon in San Francisco. While WonderCon is a smaller comic book convention, there were a few gaming bits of interest. First and foremost was the Capcom Panel that showed off a few of their upcoming games.

We Love Golf!

You know that this game must be exciting because of the use of the exclamation point in the title. The most interesting news about this rather standard looking cutesy golf game was that there were unlockable Street Fighter characters in it. Yeah… nobody really cared about this game until the mention of Street Fighter.

Okami

Leagues more interesting than We Love Golf! was the video and demo of the Wii version of Okami. Hopefully, this time more people play it. It looks better than the PS2 version, namely because when you use the magic brush you get to use the Wiimote to do the brush motions.

Bionic Commando Rearmed

This 2D remake of the game was simply gorgeous. The Capcom folks showed a couple of the challenge rooms that were recently shown at GDC. They were reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and looked to offer plenty of challenge. Capcom had people pulled up on stage, including a GameSpot reporter to try their hand at it. None of them were able to beat the level, but it looked like they ended up getting a few prizes for their efforts.

Bionic Commando

Capcom then showed off the new 3D Bionic Commando. It too looked fantastic. One level that hadn’t been seen outside of the GDC was shown that involved a skyscraper falling down in the background. They way that the debris blew down the street looked like it came right out of Cloverfield or more frighteningly, 911.

Street Fighter 4

While Bionic Commando was looking good, the real star of the show was Street Fighter 4. Capcom showed clips of the actual gamplay and it was looking great. The crowd cheered whenever their favorite characters would appear. The main world warriors each maid an appearance (none of the original bosses were reveled) in addion to the new characters in the game, Crimson Viper and Abel. The biggest news for fans of Street Fighter is that at the Capcom will have playable demos of Street Fighter 4 at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. There will even be a tournament featuring some of the “best of the best” Street Fighter players.

  1. That Girl Says:

I actually really want to play We love Golf, not for the Street Fighter characters though. While SF characters are awesome, I mainly want it because you can unlock Jill Valentine.

  2. Paul Says:

It didn’t look like a bad game, it just wasn’t want anyone in that room wanted to hear about really. It was a room full of teens to early twenty somethings that was DYING to hear about Street Fighter 4.
