The Real Warthog, With Extra Awesome

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

Peter Jackson seems to really be a big Halo fan, as his WETA has just built a real life Warthog.

“The dudes at WETA made a Warthog. I don’t mean that they made a big plastic thing that looks like a Warthog. I mean they built a fully-functioning, four-wheel steering, powerful, off-road vehicle with a machine gun on the back. At the correct scale. If you live near Wellington, New Zealand, you might even see some crazy machine-shop dude from WETA fishtailing around your base, ahem, I mean neighborhood.

What’s it for? Well, a couple of things – one of which will be one of the shorts coming from director Neill Blomkamp. We sort of blindsided you guys with the first short (Arms Race) – it had little to no context or explanation, but when you see it as it was originally intended – as part of an overall narrative, you might just pee your pants. And if you don’t, then the picture below will certainly cause some leakage. “

I wonder what the insurance is like on this thing.

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Major Nelson has just provided us with the newest list of Xbox Live activity per game. Forza Motorsport 2 seems to be dropping slowly, and Rainbow Six: Vegas has come out on top. Of course, Bomberman Live is the most played XBLA arcade game, because it is awesome, and as always, (until Halo 3 comes out,) Gears of War is at the top. The full list after the break.

Ballsy statement from SCEE

Friday, July 20th, 2007

According to “semi-official” Sony blog site, Three Speech, SCEE president David Reeves claims that this upcoming holiday season is not “necessarily the most critical one” for Sony…Bwha??

Reeves goes on to state his belief that the Playstation 3’s popularity will hit like a tsunami; slowly building force in the beginning, becoming stronger and stronger as time goes on. He goes on to say that he thinks the critical holiday season for Sony will be Christmas 08, as opposed to this year’s quickly approaching holiday season.

This statement comes as a shock in my opinion, as Sony is currently getting dominated by both the Wii and Xbox 360 in just about every territory. Even in Japan, Sony’s home turf and a major market in their overall business plan, sales of the PS3 are extremely slow, to say the least.

He’s just a Wii Bully

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

It seems that Rockstar games is really starting to like this whole Wii thingie. Just days after announcing that their hit Xbox 360 game, Table Tennis would be coming to Nintendo’s newest console, today the developer revealed yet another of their hit games will be arriving for the Wii this holiday season.

Bully: Scholarship Edition has been confirmed today for both the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii, and is scheduled to ship out this winter. Following the same story and gameplay of the PS2 version, the Xbox 360 and Wii versions will also be receiving bonus content not found in its PS2 counterpart. Although Rockstar was reluctant to reveal just what that bonus content was, the possibilities for new gameplay options on the Wii version are neigh endless with the motion sensitivity of the Wiimote.

While developers porting as many games as possible onto Nintendo’s amazingly successful new system isn’t all that surprising, it almost seems like Rockstar is attempting to almost apologize to fans of Manhunt 2 by putting out as many games as possible to fill the void while they (unfortunately) rework Manhunt in order to appease the ESRB. Hopefully, if this is the case, the ports will be designed well enough to merit a purchase, instead of being hastily thrown together messes, created for the sole purpose of Rockstar squeezing what money they can out of Nintendo’s success this holiday season. Only time will tell.

Talk About Lame: 3d Email

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

How would you like to go swimming with your spam email. Cool, right? I’ve always wanted to take a vacation with my male enhancement spams, it would be great. Sense the sarcasm; it seems as if someone is trying to make a mmorpg out of your inbox. Sorry, but I’d rather watch Harry Potter 10 times with no break. Ok, well, maybe not.

Downloaders beware, I don’t know what kinds of scary things are hidden under this executable.

Rockstar’s Table Tennis Heading to Wii

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Rockstar games, makers of the controversial Grand Theft Auto and brutal Manhunt series, announced today that the surprisingly popular Xbox 360 title, Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis, will be bouncing it’s way on to Wii consoles this fall.

According to Sam Houser, Founder and executive producer at Rockstar Games, since the release of the Xbox 360 version “fans have been asking us to create a Wii version.”

Table Tennis seems an obvious match for the Wii console, with its motion sensitive Wiimote, Table Tennis promises to recreate the feel of actual table tennis like never before. Using “an authentic physics engine” to create “intuitive gameplay that mimics the exhilarating experience of international competition.”

With it’s brand new control scheme, and Wii fans eating titles like this up, Rockstar is sure to have a hit on their hands this fall.

More information can be found on Rockstar’s website, as well as Rockstar’s Table Tennis website (the Table Tennis site has no Wii information at this time).

WiiFit is Kind of Lame After All

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Think about it. Hoola Hooping, that funny looking DDR clone, and sticking your leg into the air. Sure it will sell, and make fat gamers less fat, but it still is just a white pad that you will look even more ridiculous on, even if you are holding your WiiMote and playing Red Steel.

Peter Moore Resigns from Microsoft

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

In a somewhat shocking announcement today it was revealed that Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Interactive Entertainment, Peter Moore, will be resigning his post with the company.

Although some might not recognize the name, many of you might more easily recognize Moore as the face behind the Xbox 360. Being brought into the company in 2003 to help Microsoft with the Xbox 360 launch, Moore has been credited with greatly helping the 360’s accent into the lead position in the next-gen console race, as well as spurring a recent push for Microsoft’s new Games for Windows initiative.

GameStop Employee Bribes Me So He Can Keep His Job: A Pathetic Pre-Order Story

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I wouldn’t like to work for a company that gives me a quota of something, and if I don’t happen to meet that selling-quota for the month, they’d fire me. GameStop/EBGames seems to give their employees a certain quota of pre-orders, and if they don’t meet it, they lose their job. A GameStop employee recently explained everything to me.

Beautiful Katamari Developer Interview

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

The Katamari series; you either love it, or hate it. Personally, I love it, but the developers are going to have to add a lot of features to keep my interest. However, from the looks of what is promised in this video, online multiplayer, a new soundtrack, co-op, and the many new and different stages are really starting to catch my eye.

Beautiful Katamari is just one example of a title that was once a PlayStation exclusive, and is now coming to the Xbox 360 as well. It’s a shame that Sony keeps losing this one of a kind exclusive franchises, but thats what happens with you don’t sell consoles.

Beautiful Katamari is scheduled to be released this holiday season on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously.

RIP GameBoy?

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

It’s one of the greatest trademarks the video game industry has ever seen. The small device that singlehandedly created and maintained the entire handheld video game market for close to twenty years. Of course, the device I speak of is none other than Nintendo’s console-that-could, the Game Boy. Now it seems, that it might be time to bid our beloved handheld adieu forever.

Rdy for Bioshock? No you aren’t.

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Holy Smokes! I just upgraded my PC! You know, when Vista came out and everything, many PC gamers went out and bought new graphics cards, dual core processors, and many many gigabytes of RAM. However, if you felt that you got the bottom of the barrel top liner, and didn’t get the most for your buck, then you may be out of luck if you are wanting to play Bioshock later this year.

Unless you have a graphics card with 512mb or more, 2gb of Ram, and a Dual Core processor, then your Bioshock graphical settings on the PC may turn out to look like the original System Shock.

The full system requirements list after the break.

Play 1000 Nintendo Games on Facebook

Monday, July 16th, 2007

FreeNES is a new and pretty cool Facebook app that allows you to play over 1000 Nintendo games, free. These seem like emulated copies, so I would imagine that standard copyright laws apply.

For you several out there that are Social-Network-Illiterate, a Facebook app is like a widget or Vista Sidebar gadget that allows you to customize your blog. FreeNES alows you to play and share games right on the page.

Just click here to launch the app and start playing Nintendo games, or, you could just launch up your Wii.

Thanks to ‘SmackJack’ for the tip.

Iwata, reaching for the stars

Monday, July 16th, 2007

In an interview with Reuters last Friday, Satoru Iwata - Nintendo’s fearless leader - set some pretty lofty goals for his company’s hit console the Wii.

Iwata-san claimed in the interview that he believes that the Wii is fully capable of outselling the legendary Playstation 2 in total lifetime sales. While of course, Iwata doesn’t expect this to happen any time soon, the comments seem to be a bold step forward for Nintendo who has, in recent years, lagged behind their rival console makers.
