Sorry Europe, no cuts for you!

by Alex Nash

In an announcement coming just a few days behind the revelation that SCEA would drop the Playstation 3’s price to 499 USD, and release an 80 gig PS3 packaged with the hit game MotorStorm in the United States, Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe announced there would be no 80 gig PS3 nor price cut across the pond.

While this announcement might irk European players eager to get their hands on a cheaper PS3, the news is not all bad. In place of a price cut or brand new model, instead SCEE has decided to create a new Starter Pack bundle including the PS3 hardware, one extra SIXAXIS controller, and not one, but two first-party launch titles, all for the MSRP of 425 Pounds (115 GBP more than just the console). The titles available for this bundle include Genji, Resistance, F1 Championship Edition, MotorStorm, and Riiiiiiiiidge Racer 7.

Surprisingly enough, it seems to me that Europe actually ended up with the better package this time, but nonetheless, Sony is sure to shift even more consoles now that the packages in two major territories are more appealing.
