What Are You Looking Forward to this Holiday Season?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

For all those going to heaven to live in eternal bliss, Christmas is coming up fairly soon (if the decorations all over Wal-Mart are any indication). Christmas is the gift giving day of the year and even the sinful heathens out there will participate so as not to be left out. With this in mind, I ask what are you hoping to get video game wise this Christmas? Are you asking for a new console? Portable system? What games do you want?

Yes, Gamestop Employee; I Do Want to Sell This for a Nickel

Monday, November 10th, 2008

I realize I said that I barely go to Gamestop in a previous post, but this weekend I ran into an exception. My wife and I have been going through old books and movies and selling them so we can get rid of the junk and maybe get a bit more for other used movies and books. I found about six old XBox games that I hadn’t touched in years so I thought I might as well see if I could get anything for them at Gamestop.

Where do You Buy Your Games?

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

IGN readers have voted and Wal-Mart is the number one retail store where they purchase their games.

Second on the list was Best Buy where I currently purchase my new games. After purchasing a 48″ HDTV and entertainment center, I got bumped up into the Reward Zone black card holder club thingy which gives me a lot of points back on my purchases. This thing only lasts a year before I have to drop another ton of money to renew it and since that isn’t going to happen (i.e. I’m poor), then I have to take advantage of it while I can.

Hello Kitty’s Birthday

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Even the most jaded person could tell you that Hello Kitty was awesome and if they didn’t, they’d be a filthy liar. What’s great about Hello Kitty is that it’s probably the least amount of work put into a character license in order to make money. What’s the story of Hello Kitty? Nobody knows, and more importantly nobody cares! Girls will buy her image on anything from back packs to bicycles on site, because she’s just too adorable for words.

A BioShock 2 Teaser

Monday, October 20th, 2008

I know I’m the last one to post this, but you have to give me some leeway. I was busy beating Castle Crashers. Anyway, this teaser trailer doesn’t show much of anything at all, but at least it’s something for anyone looking forward to the inevitable sequel to Bioshock.

I’m not so sure how I feel about Bioshock 2. On one hand I’m excited, since it was a really great first person shooter with an amazing setting and a great plot. On the other hand I’m a tad worried, because the first one was such a unique experience that it overrode any of the problems I had with the game. I mean really, it was hard to swallow that anyone in Rapture could just buy guns or Plasmids capable of killing thousands out of a vending machine. Bioshock also relied on a huge twist as one of it’s wow factors, if the sequel even attempts to do something like that, then they might be in trouble.

Where’s all the Civilians?

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I’m a huge fan of first person shooters, but one thing has always bothered me about them. While wars rage in the streets in the populated cities of Earth and beyond there are never any civilians around. With a few rare exceptions, the battlefields in video games are nearly bereft of innocent bystanders.* Why is this?

Games I Demand: Where’s My Star Wars Republic Commando 2

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Seriously, why hasn’t this come out yet? Republic Commando was one of the best Star Wars games I’ve ever played, for a few reasons. It featured clone troopers and I can’t get enough of the Star Wars clone troopers. I’m not exactly sure why, but I’m totally got a rod on for any and all clone trooper action. Why? They are the embodiment of everything cool about a sci-fi army of bad asses.

Games I Demand: Mechassault 3

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

If there was one game that defined my early life as an XBox Live gamer, it was Mechassault. I spent countless hours on Live playing the game. I even belonged to a clan for a short while. Damn, that was a long time ago.

Gamer Blog Rivalries

Friday, September 26th, 2008

In order to drum up some more traffic for this site, I figured the best way would to write entertaining and informative articles. I quickly nixed the idea because it seemed like a lot of work. My second idea was to attack other game related websites and blogs until they couldn’t take it anymore. It is a tactic that most gaming blogs use and it usually works.

Here’s some facts that you probably didn’t know about Kotaku:

1. The writers have never actually played a video game.
2. Kotaku smells.
3. The site is owned by Pandas. PANDAS!

I hope that the first volley that I have launched against the mighty Kotaku will really show them… something and bring me more traffic… somehow. Oh it’s so genius that it just might work.

Sony’s Questionable Bundle…

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

The latest Sony PS2 bundle available for the holidays is coming as a Batman theme consisting of a PS2, a copy of Lego Batman, and the DVD Justice League: New Frontier.

Aside from the fact that a PS2 is the lamest gift ever in 2008, this bundle should not be given to a child (who I’m betting is the target for this). Why? Well, Justice League: New Frontier is a PG-13 cartoon that opens up with a suicide and gets darker from that point onward.

The problem here is that some parents are still completely clueless when it comes to animation. It’s hard to believe that cartoons still can be seen as appropriate for everyone when it’s been made clear by the huge influx of anime over the last several years that just because something is animated, it doesn’t mean it’s okay for kids.

The Canceled Halo MMO

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I’m still not sure if I can believe this is real, but the story broke that there was a Halo MMO at work at the former Ensemble Studios at one point. A Halo MMO isn’t such a bad idea, I suppose, but when the images from the project came out, well… I’m glad this thing is dead.

More Fallout 3 Sweet Sauce

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Bethesda, makers of the hopefully awesome Fallout 3 heading our way this fall, have launched the full version of a website called, “Prepare for the Future.” This site is basically a Fallout 3 site (natch), but it is packaged as prep guide for the hellish nightmare future you’ll be facing when you purchase the game. Don’t think that this is some crappy promotional site, the presentation is pretty top notch. It’s totally worth checking out if you’re a Fallout fan or want to know a bit more about the world of Fallout and the creatures therein.

I’m getting pretty pumped up for this thing. I’m already missing the style of the old game, but from what I’ve seen Fallout 3 is looking more than capable of being a worthy sequel.

Left 4 Dead Screens

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

One game that I’m starting to really look forward to is Left 4 Dead. The game that promises to pit you and your friends against zombie hordes controlled by an incredibly intelligent enemy AI looks like it matches the many zombie attack fantasies I’ve had for years. Kotaku has a nice selection of screenshots for you to get a better taste of what Left 4 Dead has to offer, mostly nasty zombies hungering for your flesh.

I’m hoping this thing is a big hit, because I could use a new injection of awesome multiplayer action. Call of Duty 4 is good and all, but it can’t beat fighting for your life against hordes of zombies, especially if teamwork is as critical to survival as it’s being touted. So if you’re on my friends list, you’re almost duty bound to purchase Left 4 Dead. Oh yeah, and you have to buy me a copy too.

Resistance Fall of Man: A Look Back

Monday, September 8th, 2008

With the arrival of Resistance Fall of Man 2 in November, I thought it would be appropriate for a look back on the first game to get PS3 owners back into the world of Resistance once again.

Boiled to it’s essentials, Resistance Fall of Man is a standard shooter. You get your variety of guns (all with secondary functions), levels that are almost completely straight forward tracks, vehicle levels, and alien race which borrows from almost every popular type of sci-fi alien movie. Hell, they even through in such staples as spider-like creatures. At least there weren’t a ton of exploding barrels, although there were still a few to be found.
