Dungeons and Dragons on Facebook

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

If you’re a nerd then there’s a good change that you have at least a semi-appreciation for Dungeons and Dragons. Unfortunatly for me, I was never really able to get into the game because I never had enough friends who were interested in it enough to play. Hey, it sucks being a nerd in a really, really small town. I’d still like to play it sometime, but my D&D needs are usually met by video games. Thankfully now there’s a way to waste even more of my workday on Facebook, because there’s an official D&D game called, Dungeons & Dragons: Tiny Adventures.

There are a few heroes to select from and once you name them you are up and running. While you don’t necessarily get to direct them, you’re more of a hands off D&D manager. You buy stuff for your hero, send them on quests, and there’s also some assistance you can give to your friends that have the Facebook ap. Right now their servers are getting hit pretty hard so good luck if you decide to give it a shot.

Bambi in World of Warcraft

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I’m not really into games like World of Warcraft, mainly because of the monthly fee and also because I fear having any kind of obligation to play a game in able to do anything to get to the “good parts”. Still, I’m amused by the fact that a deer very similar to Bambi named Bambina will be appearing in the World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. There’s also a skunk named Flora and a rabbit named Thudder, which are also eerily familiar to Disney characters seen in Bambi as well.

My XBox 360 Broke Part III (For Sure)

Friday, August 29th, 2008

I might as well just devote 1pstart in its entirety to my Xbox 360 breaking, since it seems to happen enough to make it worthwhile. So as you can probably tell from the title, the thing finally errored out. It finally seized up a couple of times on the 360 logo and then eventually gave me an error code “E 79″ and one red light. I got on the phone right away to get this taken care of and after the useless “now turn it one without the hard drive” routine and it still errors out, the tech support person tells me it’s going to cost $99 dollars to fix.

Fuck that.

My Fugging XBox 360 Broke Part III (Maybe)

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I know you really don’t care, but I do. After having my Xbox 360 RRoD on me once and then having the hard drive fail shortly thereafter, I might be having problems with the unit once again. This time I’m trying to play through Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and on a certain level it just freezes for no reason at a random moment. I’d think it was an issue with that particular title, but when I was playing Call of Duty 4 I started getting these bizarre error messages saying the disc was unreadable out of the blue.

I hope you’re prepared, because my impressions of Star Was: The Force Unleashed are so unleashed that they make Toby Keith’s Unleashed album look so leashed in comparison.

The World is Waiting for Wonder Woman.. In MK Vs. DC

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Everyone’s favorite DC heroine (after Powergirl, Huntress, and Supergirl) Wonder Woman is now confirmed as being in the next Mortal Kombat installment, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. Wonder Woman may be one of DC’s oldest female superheroes, but she’s looking pretty fine so far:

Cross Compatibility for Music Games. Woot.

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

It looks like one of my biggest wishes has come true. The major publishers of music based games, Activision, Neversoft, Harmonix, and Konami, have worked out an agreement with Sony that will guarantee that games will be compatible with the musical peripheral for each game maker. That means that owners of Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Rock Revolution will be able to buy one set of pretend instruments on the PS3 and buy all of the games and enjoy them… well except in the case of Rock Revolution. I don’t know how much enjoyment you’re going to get out of that dog.

Don’t worry Xbox 360 owners, you won’t be left in the cold. Microsoft confirmed that they had worked out a similar deal for the 360. Niiiiiice.

Bejeweled Officially Takes Over the World

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Popcap cames has announced that Bejeweled has sold more than 25 million copies. That’s a lot of casual games for casual game players. PopCap co-founder Jason Kapalka had this to say about it, “Considering we tried to sell Bejeweled outright to more than one industry giant back in the early days of our company, and got no takers even after reducing our asking price to $60,000, this little game has done all right for itself.” All right for itself means they’ve made about 300,000 million dollars, much better than the 60,000 they were hoping to get.

A Lot of Fallout 3 Pics

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

If you’re interested in the development of Fallout 3 (and why shouldn’t you be?) then you’ve got to make sure and check out a whole slew of images that were taken by an Asian blogger who, I suppose, doesn’t care about breaking NDAs. There’s so many pictures that if you put them in a flipbook I bet it would be a crappily animated Fallout cartoon.

So far the game is looking damn good. It looks almost exactly like the old games, except rendered in glorious three dimensions. I’m really excited to see that you can target individual body parts like in the original (and even the sort of crappy Brotherhood of Steel). I also haven’t seen any rainbows yet, so you can rest your pitchforks you hardcore dirtbags. Oh wait, you can’t handle the change from 1995 to the present. Sorry.

Force Unleashed Demo “Unleashes” This Week… HAR HAR

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

swforce.jpg

If you can’t wait for over the top, unbelievable and extreme to the max Star Wars action that’s like, TOTALLY UNLEASHED, then you should be happy to know that Star Wars: Unleashed is having a demo available on Thursday. The demo will hit Xbox Live and PSN, with Wii owners being left demo-less in the cold. The demo will be the level that’s been seen in many a demo video, the TIE Fighter Construction Facility.

Overlord II Screenshots Ahoy

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Overlord was the rare game that was fun, funny, and pretty good. Sure the thing had it’s faults, but it was damn fun being a bad guy controlling a mob of hilariously devoted minions. While never having beaten the game*, I enjoyed myself thoroughly and if you haven’t played it at all I’d recommend picking up a copy since it’s got to be fairly cheap by now. Anyway, some screenshots of Overlord II have surfaced and I’m pretty jazzed for a return to the goblin controlling humanity stomping action of the first game. Overlord II promises to have smarter minions and even more exciting, minions who can ride on wolves and other magical creatures. Awesome!

*I meant to finish it, then my hard drive crashed and wiped out my save file making it less than desirable to go back and start from the beginning. Thanks shitty hard drive!

Miyamoto is Not as Popular as Spielberg

Monday, August 18th, 2008

On David Jaffe’s blog, the mind behind God of War said that creator of almost anything famous by Nintento, Shigeru Miyamoto, and legendary game creator Will Wright are not as well known as Steven Spielberg because there is no mention of him on box art.

A Good Batman Game? No Way!

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

If there is one great question that mankind has stumbled with it’s got to be, “Why isn’t there a flipping awesome Batman game?” There may be no true answer to this problem, but the solution may come in a double dose. Not only is the Lego Batman game looking to be pretty good, but there’s a new game called Batman Arkham Asylum that holds all kind of promise for those looking for a more adult Batman game. You can check out a bunch of screenshots over on 1up.

Batman Arkham Asylum is coming out for the PC, 360, and PS3. Rocksteady Studios and Eidos have Batman in the infamous Arkham Asylum trying to stop the Joker’s evil plans. Just look at the screens for proof that this looks like a darker take on Batman than what we’ve really seen previously in video games. All I can ask for this game is it to not suck. That can’t be too hard can it?

Rock Band DLC Update: Week of 08-11-2008

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

rockbanddlclogo.jpg

Last week when I said that Rock Band was getting an injection of metal, I didn’t know that it was getting a double helping Rock with a captial R this week. Roadrunner Records is providing a six song selection of their artists this week for Rock Band’s DLC releases. The songs are:

* “Runnin’ Wild” by Airbourne

* “Clouds Over California” by DevilDriver

* “Constant Motion” by Dream Theater

* “My Curse” by Killswitch Engage

* “Aesthetics of Hate” by Machine Head

* “Sleepwalker” by Megadeth

This songs will be discounted for $.99 (80 Microsoft points) for a short time. When the “sale” is over in a month they will go up to $1.99 (160 Microsoft points). As a pack, they cost $5.99 (480 Microsoft points) $9.99 (800 Microsoft points).

My thoughts and the videos after the break!
