Xbox 360 IPTV In-Depth Demo

If you didn’t read my Bill Gates Keynote Speech live blog entry last night, then you missed alot of interesting things. One of the things that Bill Gates discussed is the future possibility of the Xbox 360. To be specific, IPTV. Basically, it’s going to be a new category in the Media blade that will allow you to watch TV in 720p through the IPTV service. This is a huge milestone in gaming because the Xbox 360 is single handidly bringing games, music, and now television to one console.
User NeutralX2 uploaded a video that shows a more in-depth preview of what we could expect from the IPTV service. The video shows how to access the Television category in the Media blade, how to pause live TV, how your able to accept voice-chat while watching TV. In a nutshell, everything you could do with the Xbox 360 normally (i.e. chat invites, game invites, messages, etc.) you can do while watching the IPTV.
I highly recommend any gamer take a look at this video to give you a better understanding of IPTV and what to expect for the future of gaming.

[...] I’m not looking to go into elaborate details about the finer points of the service. There are other sources for that sort of thing. I’m more interested in the potential implications of this added funtionality. If you’re really curious about the details of this whole IPTV thing and need something a little more tactile than a press release, there’s a really great video of an Microsoft employee demoing the service and explaining it here. I highly recommend checking it out. [...]

I really hope it’s within a good range. If it’s between $30-$50 month, I wouldn’t mind switching from my current TV service to this if it had alot of channels that interested me.

This is very interesting news.
FYI, don’t be fooled by the Contoso TV Service that Microsoft was using. That is a fake IPTV service hosted within Microsoft. Microsoft often uses the name Contoso to represent a fictional third-party company.

I think this is a stroke of genius, and ahead of all the competition. Would I like to see the Cable companies have some REAL competition. If Comcast can afford to “BUY” the Walt disney company, I feel I’m paying too much for cable TV. The movie service on Xbox live works great now that it has better speed. and the picture quility on an HDTV is flawless.
