Woman Dies Trying To Win A Wii

No pun jokes in the headline for this story. A 28 year old woman was competing in KDND 107.9 radio station’s “Hold Your Wee for a Wii” contest. The rules of the contest were simple: drink as much water as you possibly can without going to the bathroom.
Initially, contestants were handed 8-ounce bottles of water to drink every 15 minutes.
“They were small little half-pint bottles, so we thought it was going to be easy,” said fellow contestant James Ybarra of Woodland. “They told us if you don’t feel like you can do this, don’t put your health at risk.”
Ybarra said he quit after drinking five bottles. “My bladder couldn’t handle it anymore,” he added.
After he quit, he said, the remaining contestants, including Strange, were given even bigger bottles to drink.
Well, it seemed that Jennifer Strange’s body did not do so well with the contest. In fact, she died of water intoxication. Such a sad story all for a Nintendo Wii. And I’m sure no one will take responsibility for this either. So basically, a son is now without a mother just because of a dumb radio station stunt to win a Nintendo Wii. So sad.

Wow!! I did not know there was such a thing as water intoxication .That is very sad and I always thought you could not drink enough water I guess holding it was the real issue. The child must feel horrible but the mother as well did not use her nogin . I love games and consoles but not that much to risk my own life for one even for a child. Now the child is without a wii and his mother.

The radio station should have known better. That contest was dangerous from the beginning.

I agree with Chad. Whenever you do anything like this, you’d think you’d consult a doctor. Duh. Yeah, I’ve heard of water intoxication before and its kind of scary. I heard that runners can die from it if they overload during races and such.
