Wii VC Gift Giving and Wii TV Guide Coming

by PacoDG

wii... tv.. get it

Two somewhat interesting features will be hitting the Wii soon. One is scheduled for release next month just in time for Christmas, the “Wii Shop Channel Gift Function,” will enable you to send your favorite Virtual Console game and/or WiiWare software to friends as a gift (though you could always just burn a dvd with roms and emulators, still, it is the thought that counts). Though not every specific detail has been released, Nintendo has given out the basic information that a user can decline a gift, which leaves us with the assumption that you will at the least get your points credited back to you, however no word of if a refund would be given, but I wouldn’t keep your hopes up with that. With this news, they also mention that they will have a “recommend” feature of some kind.

The second feature that I am on the fence with, is the “Wii TV Program Schedule Channel.” You have the obvious use of the Wiimote as a tv remote of sorts, but you can’t watch tv through the Wii on top of nearly every tv/cablebox/sattelite box, has a tv schedule guide built in already. The only use so far I can think of, is a reminder to pop up when you are playing a game, that a tv show you want to watch is coming on, however, Nintendo has made no mention of this being a feature, just that you can see the tv schedules, sort by genre, search by keyword, etc. Expect this in Spring 2008, with hopefully more features to be revealed.
