The Sex Pistols Reunite! …for Guitar Hero III

I grew up listening to old punk rock. Along with bands like Black Flag, Fear, and the Dead Kennedys, the Sex Pistols were one of my favorite bands growing up. So, when I heard that the original Sex Pistols were reuniting, I just about pooed myself!
…then I discovered that they were getting back together to re-record a song for Guitar Hero III. Sadness resumes.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, with the exception of Glen Matlock and Sid Vicious (because he’s dead), the original Sex Pistols line-up reunited to re-record Anarchy in the UK for Activision’s upcoming Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The band was brought in to re-record their punk rock anthem because Activision was “unable to locate the original multi-tracks.”
…unable to locate the original multi-tracks? Sure, I’ll buy that.
John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten rationalized the featuring of their music, and even applauded their own performance after 30 years.
Re-recording them–what a stress you put on us but we rose to the occasion I think…admirably… A bit of anarchy in a video game is alright by me.
This isn’t the first time the anti-establishment punk Gods have re-recorded a track for a video game. They returned to the studio to redo “Pretty Vacant” for the EA title Skate.
For those of you who are pissed about hearing that the punk legends are now re-recording music for games? Get over it. They haven’t released a studio album since 1978. Even anti-establishment types have to pay the mortgage.
Activision, Neversoft, Guitar Hero III, Sex Pistols, PlayStation 3, Sony, Xbox 360, Microsoft, Anarchy in the UK

Plus all their old masters are lost, so they kind of have to rerecord the songs for use in a video game.
