The Battle Begins
Rockstar has finally made its decision to fight for their much anticipated, highly controversial title, Manhunt 2, by issuing an appeal to the Video Appeals Committee in the UK.
Rockstar filed their plea yesterday, in hopes of defending the artistic merits of Manhunt and convincing the BBFC (the British Board of Film Classification) to overturn their decision to refuse a rating to Manhunt 2 given on June 19th.
Although no announcement has yet been made regarding Rockstar’s plans to appeal the ESRB’s AO rating in America, now that the studio has moved forward with plans to fight the European ban, it seems quite likely the fight will indeed spill over into America.
The current appeal to BBFC now allows Rockstar to take up defense of the game themselves while demonstrating actual gameplay to the ratings board members.
Neither Rockstar nor the BBFC had any official comments about yesterday’s appeal.
I sure hope someone over at Rockstar has a golden tongue and can persuade the board to lift the ban, as Manhunt 2 sounds like it involves some exciting new gameplay elements, especially on the Wii.
