Thanks for Fruiting Up My XBox, Microsoft
So I, like many millions of 360 owners, had the opportunity to download the new XBox Live interface yesterday. As I’d feared, I guess I don’t mind the new interface, but I really don’t like the Avatar. The the fake Mii’s directly lifted from Nintendo add nothing to the “experience” of owning an XBox 360.
The only reason these things are there is that Microsoft is trying to take a bite out of the Nintendo’s pie. They can’t be happy with the brand differation between them and the competition is that the machine is mostly for people who actually like playing games and who might be a little older and beyond wanting to have pretend people live on their console.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be so against the things if there was a way to turn them off. Why am I forced to have an avatar? They’re annoying and useless. Worst of all they don’t come with enough options to make them even slightly enjoyable, because they’re going to try to sell you clothing in the future.
I’m an adult. I don’t need to play dress up with a video game figure that I don’t want. There should be an option to get rid of these things. Thankfully, you don’t have to see them all the time.

How come my avatar looks kind of like me, Shawn’s avatar looks kind of like him, and your avatar looks like one of the Village People?
