Sony confident PS3 will turn a profit

Sony Computer Entertainment Chief Executive, and PlayStation bossman Kaz Hirai is very hopeful that the PlayStation 3 will be able to turn a profit in the next fiscal year which, for whatever reason, starts in April.
Said Hirai during his keynote address at CES, “The next fiscal year starts in April and if we can try to achieve that in the next fiscal year that would be a great thing. We are going through the budgets right now. That is not a definite commitment, but that is what I would like to try to shoot for.”
One of the things Hirai pointed at to illustrate his goal of PS3 profitability was the falling costs of components. “The 40GB PlayStation 3 obviously has fewer components and uses less power, which means that components required to dissipate heat, for example, can be smaller, so there is some cost reduction there.”
I would love to see the PlayStation 3 turn a profit, and with the perfect storm of big name releases and everything going against Microsoft (Read: HD-DVD), it’s entirely possible that the PlayStation 3 could get the boost it needs.
