Sony Big Firmware Update

Sony of Japan announced PS3 Firmware Update v1.60 which will be ready to roll on March 22, 2007. What exactly is in the update?
*Folding@Home which is basically a protein folding experiment from Stanford University. The basics behind folding is to further the understanding of genetics.
*Internet Browser upgrade which includes pinpoint zoom and resolution settings.
*Full-size on screen keyboard.
*Remote play capabilities.
*Background downloading from the PlayStation store.
Basically, this isn’t the greatest update ever, but it has some nice things in it. We’re still waiting for backwards compatibility among other things.

… I was excited because I thought there was going to be custom soundtracks finally, but I guess not. -_-…………………. Damn.

I think the inclusion of background downloading will make things so much easier for PS3 owners to download things. I remember how annoying it used to be when the 360 first came out to download something and to not be able to do anything except stare at the download screen.

So they have background downloading now? I guess all they need now is things to actually download.

The Folding@Home thing is really exciting and a really good use of the PS3 since it doesn’t have much for games. OOOH BURN

Folding@Home is kinda cool I guess… but not so much when it comes to gaming. I hope they step things up with the next update.
