Some New Xbox 360 Units Will Load Faster and With Less Noise

The first thing I noticed when I purchased my 360 was how loud it was. Apparently, Microsoft was on the job for this one and fixed the issue. Unfortunately, those of us with systems built prior to November 2006 will just have to deal with the noise.
Some of the new units are built using BenQ BAD6038 DCVD-ROM drives instead of the noisy Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG models current Xbox 360 users own. The new drives load faster and have reduced noise.
Microsoft has not confirmed that all new units will be built with the new drives however. Check out Xbox Scene or the Microsoft website for more information.

I think my 360 drive is dying. It got a Disc Read Error playing a brand new copy of Gears of War.
Also, sometimes when I put a 360 game into it, a message pops up in 10 different languages telling me to put the game into a 360 console. My 360 doesn’t even know it’s a 360. Sound like a personality crisis.

Yep, your 360 is basically on it’s last set of legs. My friend also is also having the same problems you are, and the poor guy has been through numerous 360 consoles. They said it was his hard drive, then he got it fixed and now he gets the same disc errors that you do.

My 360 problem is actually kind of unique — it clicks when I start the console up and try to play a game that I left in the damn thing from last time. Say, NBA 2K7 — it’ll click, and small things like the audio lags. It’s times like this that I am grateful that Microsoft bumped up our warranties to a year.
