PS3’s Backward Compatibility Issues Revealed!
This video truly is shocking. I can’t believe how Sony can release their PS3 with backward compatibility issues as bad as this video shows. According to the information in the video, the horrible jaggies that show up when playing PS2/PS1 games are resized at a low resolution with no filtering at all and it can be fixed via a simple firmware upgrade, but, Sony refuses to acknowledge the issue because they don’t believe enough users will notice. If that statement is true, then Sony has hit a new low. Why wouldn’t they take care of this when the PS3 was in development? I’m sorry to say this Sony fanboys cause I’m sure I’ll get an inbox full of hate-mail, but Sony absolutely does not care about gamers. All they care about is rushing a half-assed product out in time to be “available” for the holiday season, but in the meantime, it is ruining their reputation! Stop it already Sony, you are making a spectacle of yourselves!

I’m so happy that it’s not just me. I saw this issue after picking up my ps3 on launch weekend. Sad. Can’t wait for software emulation. Will be tons better.

If I want great graphics on my ps3, then I uy ps3 games.
I noticed how crappy FFXII looked, myself, but I was playing it for the storyline. Sure, the lower graphics bothered me, some, but was it enough to bitch about?

The better fact here is that no one plays regular xbox games, so playing them on a 360 is pretty much irrelevant.

Also, Sony continues to develop games for the PS2, again, unlike another “next gen” console that we all know of. Why do all of these discussions have to always refer to another company and how they are doing things. Look at the video “name”! That is unacceptable for any next-gen console! You think I’m going to want to spend $600 for a console that supports it’s back catalog like this when that was one of the big selling points? When the PS3 was being released, all you heard was how it will support all of their games from day 1 to put down the Xbox. And Sony failed in that attempt because look at how they are supporting their back catalog. I would rather they not support it at all rather than this crap. The PSP isn’t even this bad

This was upsetting. $ony officials went on and on about when the machine would come, and how they actually implemented ps2-hardware in the ps3 to play ps2 and ps1 properly. Games like this would have been better with the option to run the ps2-BIOS on the ps3 central processor.
I look forward to the ps3 alot, but working in a games store in Norway (Europe!) i really see that alot of people are put off by the broken promises by Sony and rather spend their money on a 360 and/or a wii… and i can’t really say i blame them.

I’m still waiting for a ps3, I have a few games that no longer works well on the ps2, or at all like grand turismo 4, tekken, but this is terrible because it seems like virtually every promise is broken and you only get a quarter of what they promised, look at the launch numbers and the graphics. Dissapointing.

fellow game fans sony been on top for the last 2 console and they been good so far but they was a pain in the ass to deal with,but who brought you true 5.1 surround sound in game, true hd,best graphics,hard drive in a system, etc this is xbox first system and they gives us all these option in there first system also online now xbox 360, old games have been enhance even more so as peter moore would put it the jaggies are over so fellow game fans if a game company dont do what they suppose to you will know who cares and those who do.and remember dont beat your chest over which console is better you will know in the long run so shop smart fellow game fans,so until next time peace out.

All i have to say is $ony=broken promises…and all ps3 fanboys have to hold about over xbox is 1080p…what about xbox over ps3: better price, rumble over motion controller, HD-DVD(Bluray is Dead face it), Better Graphics even with ps3 at 1080p suckers, XNA Express, over a hundred games, 1st party accessories and of course the crown jewel of the family XBOX LIVE!!!

Hey Meno….. PS3 has failed in every way. Sony has done nothing they claimed they would do. Their rip-off of the Wii controller is barely functional, they have no rumble, 360 games are graphically superior, which is sad since Sony was toting PS3 as the graphically superior system, they have few exclusives, where-in MS and Nintendo have tons (Nintendo having dozens of exclusive franchises of their very own) Sony cannot even win the console war this gen from a financial standpoint, as the system cost too much (their heavy-handed approach of forcing Blu-Ray down your throat), and they’re selling their under-200,000 units at a massive loss per console for $600. Meanwhile its closest competitor this gen, the Wii, is making a tidy PROFIT per system sold, is selling for under half the price, is superior in nearly every single way, and has a stronger support for their consoles. Sony sells games to make money. They have no passion for gaming. Booya!! HAHAHAHA!!! (fucking retard)

And why is everyone on the whole 1080p thing? Who even owns a set that has 1080p? TV sets that support 1080p cost an arm and a leg. I just recently bought a 42″ Plasma screen and it doesn’t have 1080p and I’m fine with it because there is no need for it now. HDTV channels at the moment only support 1080i and the channels won’t be broadcasted in 1080p for at least another 5+ years. So why would I even think about buying a TV that supports 1080p? There is only one thing I could use it for and that’s for the PS3 and it isn’t worth spending $4000+ and $600 for a system that was rushed.

With the big shake up at Sony the past month I think Sony stated that they are going to start focusing more on their TV’s and other consumer electronics and step away from giving so much focus to their PS3 division. It all comes into play when Sony’s other electronics divisions have been failing to produce quality appliances. Such as those exploding laptop batteries. So, even though they claim to have had much more focus on the PS3 up until 2-3 weeks ago, this just goes to show how Sony’s focus on the PS3 wasn’t worth sh#t. The PS3’s have been failing for a lot of new PS3 owners also. Where is Sony’s quality control?
This is why I’ve started a new declaration 5 years ago to never buy another Sony product. Because it’s been my experience that Sony’s other electronic devices do not have a long life span. My TV went out after only 4 years of service, VHS only after 3 years, DVD player lasted almost 4 years, and my cordless phone only lasted about 2 years. All of which were Sony products.
Sony = $ony. Greed = Corruption = $ony.

Wow, excellent video! Great job on the production quality. I think I’ll pass on the PS3. Leaving a $8 dollar part (scalar chip) off of the PS3 is comical at best, a fiasco at worst. The unit is so expensive that leaving out a part that is present in even the cheapest DVD players is just poor materials planning from the engineers. You don’t skimp on parts that enhance and broaden usability. Trust me, I design server motherboards for a large computer manufacturer. This is a mistake of grand proportions. I imagine that the Sony engineer who made this gaff is under some serious heat. I have made mistakes similar to this in the MB’s that I have designed and thankfully the company I work for either retrofitted or upgraded my mistakes. Sony has this opportunity still if they want it. There are only 200,000 or so units out there right now. There is plenty of time to add this chip and then replace the gimped ones missing it. I imagine Sony might have done this if they didn’t have the exploding battery fiasco to pay for as well.

After seeing this I will still buy a PS3. PS3 is gonna be the best, Lets face it. This will all be fixed soon enough with updates. Console launches always have there problems. Everyone has there favorite system. most of us probably nintendo when we were young. what made us leave nintendo to playstation? Playstaion did something that wasn’t done before. and even with slow launches… it all worked out…. look at the PS2. Whats xbox doing. Whats so new about xbox. There a wanna be Playstation with Halo. Its only fitting that the smartest - Microsoft will always trail in video games due to lack of creativity. Whats exciting for Xbox players is when they get ps3 exculsives ported over like Grand Theft Auto. Bottom feeders really.

I’ll tell you what was new with the Xbox. The online portion. I mean, the Dreamcast tried it, but it just didn’t work out. Xbox Live gives a real sense of community with other gamers and they pioneered it. I hope that answers your question. And how is Microsoft trailing due to lack of creativity? It allows you to tend to a garden to lure pinatas into your garden to live and procreate. That isn’t creative? Nintendogs was creative as well. It was a game that really wasn’t a game. It just introduced a very life-like experience with a virtual pet and it was a hot item last christmas. Almost every DS that was sold last year was sold with a copy of Nintendogs.

So your defense now is saying that PS2 sold 600,000 units. Great, that’s wonderful that Sony is still able to produce PS2s. Do you know how many “confused” parents probably bought a PS2 for their children who wanted a PS3 thinking that it was the same thing? Think about it, how many parents really know the difference between a PS3 or PS2. They just see that it’s a cheaper playstation and they think that’s what kids want.

I’m a PS fan as much as the next guy, but i think its just pathetic that any game will look better on a PS2 than it will on a PS3. i still don’t have a PS3 but i will get one as soon as i can, but even though i’m dying to get one i would have rather waited another month or so so that the guys at sony could fix this BIG error on their hands.

BB, the video was created as if Sony’s backwards compatibility is completely shocking. The music enforces this. However, I think you are taking a little too far. The next gen is about well … the next gen. Not about the previous. I agree that it should be better or improved upon but there was no need for the video. The topic will get out of hand and fanboys (from both sides) will post rubbish about it. In fact, can I go as far as to say that this blog of yours is slightly fanboyish? You complain about a ‘half-ass product’ but what do you think about the backwards compatibility for the xbox? IMO, the xbox bc is far worse.

I just bought a PS3 two days ago. My point is that there are individuals out there that want to paint a miserable picture about a system, “which they don’t even own”.
All fun aside, (don’t want to get kicked off by the almighty haha) If you are an XBOX fan, fine, if you are a Sony fan good for you too. But It is not necessary to start bashing people for their remarks, if you can’t take it, don’t put it out there.
Hay, maybe the XBOX 360, and the PS3 will interface on line so XboxSucksHard, and myself can take you all on for a freindly game of, call of duty 3, or something like that.

My buddy is testing PS3s for Sony. I asked him about all this last night. He says this isn’t that big of a deal. Out of 5,000 games only 200 don’t work. He also said that a lot of the graphical glitches are minor. I’ll believe him since that’s his job. Those numbers really aren’t that bad when you crunch it down into a percentage.
Xboxsuckshard… I have to go back to your point about ps2 doing madden then Microsoft going from there… there’s a difference between online gaming in general (i.e. Madden) and the Live system which is more of a system wide focus on online gaming. If you’ve never played on Live you’re really missing out. I’m really hoping that the PS3 model can match Live.

Let’s be honest here, most Xbox games aren’t, and many will never be backwards compatible. That’s not a guess, it’s a fact. Xbox 360 will NEVER be truly backwards compatible.
PS3 BC will be fixed with a patch downloadable online. All but a very tiny number of PS and PS2 games already work on PS3 out of the box, the graphics problem will be fixed. The same cannot be said for Xbox 360 as all of their Xbox games won’t work on a 360, and most don’t right now.
So while you have to hold onto your original Xbox in order to play Xbox games because some you can’t on your 360 Ill already have tossed out my PS2 because my PS3 can play them and will soon have an update that fixes the graphics on them.
M$ aimed for the right people it seems. They hooked onto the same group that they’ve been overcharging for years on software and hardware and got a decent group of fanboys. M$ doesn’t need to promote the Xbox anymore as the diehard Xbox fanboys will do it for them. Have fun depriving yourselves of other consoles because you’re so attached to your sexbox while the rest of us have fun with our PS3s and Wiis.
