Pokemon Released To The Masses!

500,000 pre-orders. Nintendo reported this past week that pre-order sales figures for Pokemon Diamond/Pearl reached 500,000. And today, April 22nd, is the day 500,000 pre-orders will be fulfilled.
The whole Pokemon craze started all the way back in 1995. Back when a slice of pizza cost you a buck 25. Pokemon was HUGE! Gameboy games. A still strong anime series. Trading cards. Hell, even plushes. The idea of needing to “catch them all” was tattooed into our heads. And we loved it.
Now, a new Pokemon game has been released. And Nintendo DS owners are welcoming the game with open arms. I have only been playing the game for 2 days, and I have to say that I am very impressed by the quality of the game. The graphics have received a 3D upgrade while still keeping its traditional “2D” look. The Pokemon are colorful and animated very well. The battles, though sometimes are a bit repetitive and can lag a little when you fight a Pokemon who ups it’s defenses, is still fun. The addition of online multiplayer battles or trading of Pokemon. It’s all just great.
All in all, if you have a Nintendo DS, then you must have this Pokemon game. No question about it. I think at this point in the game, your pretty much outcasted by gamer society if you don’t fall in and try to catch ‘em all.

If I had a DS, this would be ‘instabuy’ .. I haven’t touched a Pokemon title since the original red/blue, and out of all of the different Pokegames that have come out, this looks like it is the graphical upgrade to the original.

@PacoDG: Your correct. I really can’t remember the last time I played a Pokemon game either, and when I play this one, I feel like a little kid again. It’s a great feeling and I can’t wait to play it again

Wow, Pokemon has been around for so long. I’m wondering if the cartoon is still on air. When will it die! Just kidding. Nintendo has a knack for creating and then milking their franchises to death, more so than any of other game company. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing though. But then again, EA Sports milks the same sports games with sometimes minor sometimes innovative improvements year after year.
In the case of Pokemon, I feel like the game can only go so far, in terms of upgrades and improvement to game play.

@Richard, You know, there can always be a true 3D MMO Pokemon game (just my childhood fantasy :P).
But other than that, yeah. You can only take the franchise to a certain length before you start to loath and hate it….. luckily this game is not a step towards that direction.

Fail. Please review the difference between its and it’s and in which environment one should use them.

@Svetlana: What…are…you…talking…about? I didn’t even use “its” or “it’s” in this article? So nice attempt at trying to correct my grammar. It looks like you failed my friend.

you definitely used “it’s” in the wrong place…”The graphics have received a 3D upgrade while still keeping it’s traditional “2D” look”

@meesh: Aww crap. I totally didn’t see that. Thanks for letting me know where it is rather than bashing me like the other commenter.
