People Over 100 Playing Video Games?

We had an article a while back about seniors playing the Wii, but I would have never guessed that people over the age of 100 even knew anything about games. This reminds me of when I was in line at Wal Mart the other day. And yes I do realize that Wal Mart is pure evil. All of a sudden someone’s phone went off and it was the “holla back girl” song by Gwen Stefani I believe. Everyone in line was looking around to see whose phone it was and then an old lady in her 70s answered it. Pretty much the entire line including myself burst out into uncontrollable laughter over the shock of someone her age having that ring tone. I really did try to control myself, but couldn’t. I think she was mad, but there wasn’t anything that could be done at that point. I guess nowadays, people even over 100 are hip to the times so to say.
Minneapolis, MN (April 3, 2007) –The second annual “Evercare 100 @ 100 Survey polled one hundred Americans turning 100 and older this year about their practices and habits and found that, contrary to some conventional stereotypes, centenarians are staying in tune with the times. Like the rest of Americans, they are following current trends like reality television, video games and iPods, worrying about health and diet, and keeping up on news and current events.
The article is very interesting and shows how there really isn’t so much of a gap between us and the elderly in this country. I think perhaps we are entering an age where everyone embraces change and technology.Definitely check out the link below for the full story. I found it interesting for sure.

It’s interesting. My own experiences seem to discredit the article somewhat.
I work in IT, training various levels of users on all manner of equipment. I can say with absolute certainty that I cringe anytime my trainee is over 55. The odds are that even if they are capably trained in their current system, learning a new system will be an arduous process.
There is a gap. Maybe not so much in what has been experienced, but in the ability to adapt to new technology. The younger generations can adapt to new environments ten-fold better than their elderly counterparts… I see it every day.
Of course there are arguments against it, but it seems to me that even if grandma played something on an ipod… someone else set up itunes for her.

I’ll be 102 years old this December and I can’t wait for GTA4. This grandpa wants to bust some heads…video game heads of course. I just need a good supply of adult diapers, my prune juice, and GTA4 in my xbox 360 and I’m ready to go.
