Nintendo making up to $74 profit on each Wii

According to a new report in the Financial Times, Nikko Citigroup analyst Soichiro Fukuda has stated that he estimates Nintendo’s GP (Gross Profit) per console ranges from $13 to $74. $13 (1,500 yen) in Japan, $49 (5,600 yen) in the US, and $74 (8,500 yen) in Europe.
I’ll say that again, just to make sure it sinks in: Nintendo is making $74 per console in Europe. So, in direct opposite of my previous post, in which I implied that gamers may be tiring of Nintendo, it seems that now gamers are in love with Nintendo once again.
The report goes on to point out that the inclusion of Wii Sports helps to drive up the profit margin in the US and Europe, and is quick to point out that neither Microsoft or Sony is making a profit on their consoles yet. Microsoft expects to make a profit in ‘08, while Sony could make one as soon as 2009.
