My Take On Battlestations: Midway (Xbox 360)

It’s currently the #1 game in the U.K. I assumed being #1 there that the game had to be decent. I also shouldn’t have accused the U.K. of having good taste in games. I now understand that it’s probably #1 due to the hype around the game. At a distance, it really does look badass, but honestly the game is average at best. I’ve spent the past 3 days playing the game and was not impressed with what I found.
The first thing to note is that you cannot just jump into the game. The controls are a little weird and learning how to control your fleet is a challenge at first. Basically the tutorial section is necessary for you to figure out what the hell is going on. The problem with the tutorial is that it’s excessively boring and long. It took me over an hour to get through the tutorial. You also have to listen to this hobo sounding guy run his mouth the entire time.
The overhead maps in the game are terrible and lack detail. After each mission objective in the campaign, you get to see real cheesy cut-scenes that look like yesterday’s technology. The multiplayer is a little better just because you are forced to strategize against other people. Basically the single player mode is worthless which really drops my opinion of the game.
