If you lived through 1990, you might remember a little character called “Mr. Bean”. If you don’t recall, Mr. Bean basically was a middle-aged man, who for some reason had a closer relationship with his teddy than he did with any real woman. Every episode would pit him against some tough decisions like which pencil he should use, which tie to wear, or which entree to order.

Blast! announced today that they have signed Mr.Bean from Tiger Aspect Productions.

Mr.Bean on PlayStation 2 will be made up of 3D levels avoiding tricky traps and problem solving along the way to find his missing Teddy with the help of Bean’s girlfriend Irma Gobb.

Mr. Bean… solving problems to rescue his missing Teddy… with the help of his girlfriend? Expect a system seller here folks.

Mr.Bean, who burst onto our television screens in 1990 has established himself as one of the world’s most popular character brands. The Live action and Animated Mr Bean TV series have been in distribution around the world for 17 years and are currently broadcast in more than 190 territories. Additionally, Bean – The Ultimate Disaster Movie became one of the largest grossing UK movies with box office receipts in excess of US$255 million worldwide and worldwide DVD and Video sales now number more than 16 million units. A new Mr Bean movie, Mr Bean’s Holiday, chosen as the official film for Comic Relief 2007, will be released in cinemas nationwide from 30th March 2007.

Mr.Bean on PlayStation 2 will be made up of 3D levels avoiding tricky traps and problem solving along the way to find his missing Teddy with the help of Bean’s girlfriend Irma Gobb. 92% of children under 11 are great Mr.Bean fans and 67% of children under 11 watch the TV series regularly, according to Film Audience Research and the game will be developed to specifically target this younger audience.

Sean Brennan, MD Blast! Entertainment commented – “It is very gratifying to have secured Mr.Bean in our continuing efforts to sign up high profile movie, TV and cartoon licenses to create games aimed at kids and families, with the overall mission to provide a publishing platform to bridge the gap between mainstream children’s film and TV to interactive entertainment.”

Executive Producer, Katherine Senior of Tiger Aspect Productions commented – “Mr.Bean is an enormously strong worldwide property and bringing the character to an interactive format is a natural progression for the brand, we feel Blast! is the perfect partner to bring Mr.Bean to a totally new level”

This should be a big hit with the kids, and I’m sure the odd parent just may play with their children, if not for the Mr. Bean nostalgia and just sharing a few giggles.
