More GameStop Confessions, Now From a Supervisor

A shift supervisor at a GameStop named “G” has wrote an email to the Consumerist trying to defend the store’s crappy policy and services as a result of all the bashing that GameStop receives online. Though nothing he writes is really eye-opening, he does give some insight on a few known issues people have with the stores as well as some advice. In the end though, I still say take your business elsewhere, however, here are some highlights from his list:
GameStop will open boxes to either try the games themselves and/or for display, this is unavoidable. G’s pretty obvious suggestion is to ask to view the disc before buying, if you see something wrong, an employee is able to discount the title if you still wish to buy. An interesting note about their return policy for used games, they can be exchanged within 7 days for another title, this is a policy they do not advertise (make sure to keep your receipt).
Employees jobs depend on you pre-ordering. This is crazy imo, and I really am not in favor of such a practice, but I am just letting you know if you do get harassed about pre-ordering something while you are shopping, it is because the person is trying to keep their job (and on the other hand not trying to keep their pride).
Trade ins for DVDs are pretty much done, so if they do take them, don’t expect much for them. Sports games which receive an update year after year are also not worth much. Though the article lists a lot of obvious things, it is nice to hear from the shift supervisor himself that you will get more money from selling your games yourself (eBay, Craigslist, etc), it is of course the effort it takes to doing such a thing that brings in a better payout.

Having been an assistant manager for a mall Gamestop I can relate to everything this guy is posting about. There is a supremely large misconception of people when it comes to the policies of the store. I’ve been threatened myself several times because people don’t want to hear how they’re wrong and not getting their way.
