Modern Technology Turns Children Into Loners?

This has been an ongoing debate for some time and there really aren’t solid right and wrong answers to the problem. In a survey of primary teachers by Save the Children, it was found that more than 70 percent of teachers believe that children’s social skill are lacking due to video games, mobile phones, MP3 players and the internet. Of course, I don’t see this as a scientific study of any kind. Teachers do not know exactly what is going on at home and it’s also difficult to pinpoint these problems. I think it’s very easy to blame electronic gadgets. My personal belief is that our society has changed rapidly on many levels in the past several decades. We have probably witnessed more changes in the world in the past 30 years than took place in the 300 years before this time. Parenting of course is something that needs to be looked into.

“Latch key” kids are more common than ever. Television, gaming systems and the internet have become virtual babysitters for many children. Children are going to become loners in this world we have today. It’s simply because they are forced to rely on themselves more than they should. On the surface, articles like this one point the finger at games and the like which makes sense. It’s not logical to blame games though. If you were to remove games from the environment, yet still have the same society, they will simply find a replacement. I really wish that people would start digging deeper for the causes instead of simply pointing fingers at what appears to be obvious.

We live in a faster society and need to make changes. I completely believe that gaming and television should be limited for kids. It’s really the parents and teachers responsibilities to shape these young people into functional adults. It’s very easy to point fingers instead of finding solutions. Instead of continually debating these things over and over, I would like to see people take actions.
