Miyamoto is Not as Popular as Spielberg
On David Jaffe’s blog, the mind behind God of War said that creator of almost anything famous by Nintento, Shigeru Miyamoto, and legendary game creator Will Wright are not as well known as Steven Spielberg because there is no mention of him on box art.
I’m guessing that Miyamoto isn’t as popular as Spielburg due to the fact that he hasn’t directed some of the biggest money making and beloved films of all time, but that’s just my guess. While Jaffe’s arguments have some vaild points, filmmakers are generally more famous because of the fact that movies are often seen as a form of art where games have not been. If game packaging started featuring game designers more prominently, it might help, but overall games have to be taken a lot more seriously before a majority of people give a damn who makes a game. If the name Miyamoto gives you goosebumps, I can tell you that 95% of the people buying his games have never heard of him before, nor do they care.
