Kentucky County Library To Carry Video Games

I found this fact slightly interesting. Campbell County in Kentucky plans to start carrying video games at their libraries. I find it an awesome idea that a library would actually do something their patrons want. I really wish they would do that around here. They do carry some nice DVDs at the University library where I go, but no video games for sure.
The Campbell County Public Library in Kentucky recently announced it will carry video games alongside those paper-bound book things with words on the inside. Three local branches will house games from each of the three big systems — Xbox 360, Wii, and PlayStation 3. People have been requesting video games for years, a branch manager said, so the library did some research (Did they have to go to another library to do it? Zing!) and found that a large portion of their patrons (people in their early 30s) also happen to be gamers.

Soon to be 36 yrs old, play Halo-2 on average 2 1/2 hours a night, 4 nights a week. Still go to the library once in a while, and even purchase books to read. Some books are published by the game makers themselves and add to the storyline, like the Halo novels. So there is obviously still a market, and I think that combining the 2 at your local library can only encourage the kids to read a little more. A book will certainly help them improve their grammar over the language that is becoming standard over text chats on the internet. Now that’s some poor english.

You can get DVDs and cds at most libraries, so why not video games? Maybe it will also let poor kids play more games than they otherwise would

That is pretty damn neat!

It’ll be interesting to see which games they supply. I doubt any M rated games will make the cut, so expect a lot of “Shrek’s Party Games”.

you never know though. Libraries tend to carry some adult material. I was at a public library once that had a collection of every Playboy magazine ever printed.
