Is a new Wii hard drive really in the works for Nintendo?
Why do we think so? Games are wondering where to stash their information as more and more Virtual Console games come out. Nintendo does permit the gamer to remove games from the internal memory and store them on an SD card to download later for free, however, most players would likely want everything available to them readily. But this doesn’t appear to be in the works for Nintendo just as yet.

Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s true, given that Nintendo just announced a new software development platform to debut on the Wii named Wii ware, which is similar to Xbox live arcade, and has been featured on the Play station store. However, games aren’t expected to be released until early in 2008, as studios were just introduced to Wii Ware as of late. However, there have been many signs towards this move, and Tell Tale games was one of the first to incorporate the new feature. The studio did appear to want to bring the Sam and Max episode games onto Wii at some point in time, and led to some hue and cry which lasted till Nintendo got in touch with them.
Sam and Max has not been officially released by Tell tale for Wii ware just as yet though it seems likely that it will be. However, the original software appears to be set to quickly outstrip the existing 8,16 and 64 bit releases. Previous rumors about a hard drive have been dispelled by Nintendo, which even flat out denied it when the Wii ware announcement was made.
Another fact that supports the idea of Nintendo needing a hard drive for Wii was the April announcement of SNK’s plan to port Neo Gwo over to Virtual Console in the upcoming months. Also, the large game sixes suggest that a hard drive would be required.
So, what can we conclude from all this? Nintendo hasn’t announced any partnerships, but has already announced the Wii Ware concept. E3 appears to be a good time for them to display some signed on publishers and developers, and also confirm the new feature. The problem though, is that it is an additional feature – will Nintendo be able to persuade gamers to spend extra money to buy an additional feature?
