HDMI Enabled 360 Pros Are Still Too Fat
Daily Tech reported yesterday that the recently upgraded model of the Xbox 360 Pro, which includes an HDMI port for high definition output, is still lacking a major new revision that game hardware enthusiasts have been clamoring for months about; a 65nm chipset.
The original Xbox 360 models all used 90nm processor chips to run the system, and these chips have been widely credited for causing heating issues that have caused the demise of many a 360 across the globe. Microsoft confirmed weeks ago that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company was already in production of the 65nm chips for the Xbox 360 hardware, yet they still haven’t shown up in retail units yet.
Adding a brand new HDMI port while simultaneously dropping the price of the Xbox 360 by $50 inevidibaly will drive more customers into purchasing Xbox 360 systems, so it seems quite odd that Microsoft would choose to keep the hotter chips in the consoles as opposed to the newer, cooler ones. By shipping systems including the older chipset, Microsoft is just opening themselves up to having even more users take advantage of their new 3 year Xbox 360 warranty, and in turn costing Microsoft even more money.
Stupid move Microsoft. I want my tiny chipset!
