Halo 3 in true 1080p?

It is to my great shame that I admit this, but I do not own an HDTV. There is no excuse for it. The next-gen is here, I’ve spent hundreds on new systems, yet I remain HD-less. When the system you are playing on costs more than your couch and TV combined, there is something wrong. Will Halo 3 finally force me to change? It seems likely, with the latest news out of Microsoft.
Microsoft is pushing for Halo 3 to run in TRUE 1080p. This is being done in an effort to debunk Sony’s claims of having the most powerful console available. Sony’s argument is that games for their machine run in a TRUE 1080p resolution, while the Xbox 360 runs an UPSCALED 1080p. What’s the difference to the average person? Not much. What’s the difference from a development perspective? Immense.
The news from Bungie is that they have been equal to the task. They have an internal build of Halo 3 running at TRUE 1080p at 60fps. Will this spell an end to Sony’s claims of having the most powerful console? Perhaps. What Microsoft needs to realize is that while numbers and graphics might be important to some, gameplay is what matters most. Here’s hoping that Bungie is also equal to THAT task.

My wife is gonna kill me. I sold my 4 wheeler (a 2002 Honda 400ex) so I could get a projector and 6.1 surround in the basement for Halo2. Now a 42 inch Samsung w/1080p and a 360 Elite Xbox for Halo3 ? I’d better start looking for a nice singles condo/appartment, because there will be no sympathy from the Mrs. ‘Your children need food to live ‘ she’ll say, not fully understanding the important implications of a 1080p Master Chief and how it will improve my gameplay experience. Dagnabbit ! now I’ll have to sell my waverunner or the sportbike. decisions, decisions.

“1080p at 60 fps is awesome for fighting games and barely a stretch for Live Arcade games. But if you want epic battles, dozens of bad guys, huge vistas and colossal structures, with advanced AI, HDR lighting and explosive physics, then you’re not getting those at 1080p at 60fps. Actually, that’s not entirely accurate – Halo 3 will display at 1080p through the Xbox Elite with its scaler and HDMI port, but not natively. We’ve seen it do just that and it looks utterly lovely. So if you have a 1080p TV, enjoy it yourself in a few weeks. Most people, and I mean the VAST majority of people don’t have a 1080p TV, so it would be foolish to sacrifice even a single feature for a bullet point number on the back of a box.” - http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12392
