Guitar Hero III Track Pack Rip Off Starts
Today the first downloadable content for Guitar Hero III has been released, two packs coming in at 500 Microsoft Points a piece (that is $6.25), with a Velvet Revolver Pack and Foo Fighters Pack. Now I will say an improvement over the old system of ripping you off is a little better, at the least they didn’t spread the downloads over three very different bands in one pack, so if you buy these, you don’t have to pay for an artist you don’t want. Now back to the negative side of all this, first, a commercial (keep reading afterwards, it ties in):
You’d think that this is just Slash advertising Guitar Hero III itself, but it seems he really is advertising this brand new track pack, as before the release I honestly hadn’t compared the song used in that commercial with the tracklist in the game, it didn’t hit me until now (Note: The song used is “Slither” available in the “Velvet Revolver Pack”). Those diabolic bastards at Activision. This is taking the smooth move of offering DLC fairly quickly after a games release to a whole new level by ensuring it can be used as advertisement for the game on top of the notion that it was more than likely ready to be pressed on the game disc in time for shipping, but they held it back to get extra money for you on the side.
Still, the commercial is honestly a minor thing at the moment, the main thing is, online petitions do nothing, hit the publishers where it matters, the wallet, DO NOT BUY THESE TRACK PACKS! Rock Band is coming soon enough, lets see if they can help change the trend of these overpriced packs and bring in a price war that I really believe is inevitable. I am quite curious to see how the PS3 owners will be reacting once their DLC prices for these track packs are released.

I know this is probably flame bait, but I really don’t feel luke 500MSP is too much for three good songs. I already bought the Foo Fighters pack.
So many are quick to criticize the pricing as too expensive, but what do you consider a fair price and why?

I agree Texcub, 500 isn’t bad price for the tracks.
