Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Wii Version Online Battle Confirmed

Gamespy recently spent some time previewing Guitar Hero III confirming in their write up that the Wii version will in fact have the online battle mode:
“…You’ll jump online via Nintendo Wi-Fi, and your friends code will appear at the top of the screen. You’ll have the option of auto-match, in which you’ll immediately battle against any friends who are playing online. In a strangers match, you’ll take on anonymous people. You can create a match and invite friends as well. You’ll also have leaderboards to check out your progress, and a passcode (a la the Tony Hawk DS games) where you can set up a personal profile for yourself. Our online battle ran seamlessly…”
There you have it. Though I remember bitching about the Wii friend codes being a huge problem and a possible deal breaker when a person thought about buying a Wii, it really will end up being no different than playing online in other games ‘vs’ modes, where if you play with/against a person, if you want to add them as a friend, you just click a button and there you go, no need to memorize or constantly input codes.
Now back to reality, if you do have an actual friend who has the game and their Wii ready to rock against you online, you will still sadly have to input their code. I wish they would update the system so that the codes are just attached to some sort of user profile that you can change/update on Nintendo.com or just something else than having to write down/read off a screen a long set of numbers, I know it is just a few seconds of our lives here, but it adds up and makes me feel as though I have a nice bar code across my forehead instead of a nice personalized user name.
