Gears of War: The Movie

For the Gears fans out there, New Line Cinema just acquired the rights to make a Gears of War film. Don’t get too excited, because we all see what happened with the Halo movie. Of course, I think they will still make the Halo movie, but there’s no telling when. Cliff Bleszinski (lead game designer) is working with the screenwriter Stuart Beattie who is best known for the film ‘Collateral’. According to New Line Cinema, they will not be making a low level movie and this is why they have hired an A-list writer for the screenplay.
We should probably hear more about this in the near future.

Game to film conversions NEVER work so I really don’t hold out much hope for this. Halo is a much bigger franchise and as Kezins said, what’s happened to that?

Oh please , oh please, oh please don’t let Uwe Boll get involved with this movie, it ould be doomed before it ever hits the theaters.

@Reaper:
Don’t count on it. Uwe Boll is finally shown to be the hack that he is. I doubt many big name franchises will give him the time of day at this point.

LOL Super Mario Bros. I’ll never forget Bowzer. That movie was felt more like an 80’s movie to me than The Breakfast Club, even though it WAS made in 1993.

As much as I like the game I think the movie will be a disappointment. The problem with converting a video game into a movie is individual expectations. Ten different people will have ten different opinions of how the movie should be made. How the movie should look, who should be in it, how long or short it should be. Let’s face it, every one of us is a critic inside just waiting to pick out the things wrong with a movie. I think a director of a movie like this should be a fan of the game. Even if they are a fan of the game that guarantees nothing. I wonder how many people working on this movie are true fans of the game. Too many people in the movie business only care about the box office sales. They already know the movie will be an instant hit no matter what based on hype alone. The people in the movie business have no loyalty to the game or the fans of the game. They have loyalty to the all mighty dollar. Too many disappointing movies have proven it. To those of you looking forward to the movie, I hope it is good and you do enjoy it. I don’t think you can get better than the game though so I’ll stick with the game. I know I sound like a party pooper but my gut tells me the game is too big for the movie and so is Hollywoods greed.
