GameTap Offers Free Service May 31st

It seems that GameTap has either been doing so well or so bad that they decided to offer different levels of services for their GameTap service. Here’s a rundown of what you could expect on May 31st:
- Gold Membership: No advertisement. $9.95 per month, 99 cents the first month, or $6.95 per month with a one year commitment. Gold members have complete access to over 850 games, GameTap TV, and any GameTap Originals and Indies games.
- Green Level Membership: Registration required, but not a credit card. Free access to 30-60 public games which continually rotate in availability. Access to multiplayer games as well as community features (forums, leaderboards, personal profile, etc.) Video Roll-in ads that show up prior to gameplay in the Deluxe Player and banner ads in the Lite Player.
- Unregistered users: Complete free access to 30-60 public games (which are rated E-T) through the Lite Player. GameTap TV will also be viewable. Users will also have “non-intrusive” banner ads during gameplay while using the Lite Player.
This is a good move by GameTap. I mean, not only will they make money from the advertisements being played while the unregistered users play some free games, but I’m sure their membership numbers are going to go up a huge amount since I’m sure many people will love the free service so much, that they decide to sign up. Good thinking Gametap.
