Games I Demand: Seaman 2
News broke that a Seaman spin-off game might possibly make it’s way onto iPhones in the U.S. Personally, I hail any kind of Seaman news as good news, but it’s still not enough. I demand a Seaman sequel, maybe call it something like, “Seaman 2: More Seaman in Your Face” or “Seaman 2: Seaman Unleashed” to appeal to the younger crowd who enjoy things being extreme and unleashed.
The original Seaman was a completely bizarre, yet fun virtual pet game on the Sega Dreamcast where you raised a fish creature with a man face and talked to him via a microphone. It wasn’t perfect, but it was awesome. You got to watch your Seaman evolve over time from a tadpole like creature to a fish thing with legs. You’d talk to it and it would say funny things. Best of all Leonard Nimoy lended his voice to the whole proceeding to add to the awesome oddness of the game.
It’s time for a return of Seaman. Think of all the possibilities Seaman could offer on todays consoles. Both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have microphone support (the 360 pretty much has one by default) so there’s no need for a special pack-in. The possibilities on the Wii are a little more exciting, because you could play with your Seaman on a whole other level undreamt of. You could even have Seaman portable games for the ultimate Seaman in your pocket experience!
Sega, get Seaman out of retirement. Bust Seaman out on the gaming public once again. I demand it!
