Folding@Home; PS3 Owners Start Caring About Cancer on March 23rd

Sony’s much advertised Folding@Home program, which is a program that allows idle PS3s to help with Stanford University’s research on abolishing Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, cystic fibrosis or various kinds of cancer, will be made readily available on March 23.

Folding@Home was originally introduced back in October as a free download for PCs that were inactive. This will mark the first time any video game console was used for such a worthy cause. There will be some skeptical PS3 owners who don’t want to keep their PS3s on when they’re not playing for the fact that it wastes electricity and possibly will shorten the life of your console, to you I say, “C’maaaaaaaaaaaaan”.

SOunds like a solid Idea but do you think it is going to fly? It’s for a good cause, I dunno.

  2. BB Says:

Well, PS3 owners right now are playing God of War II, so that’s showing how starved they are to play on their PS3s. Once they beat God Of War II, the PS3 is going to experience some downtime, so why not cure cancer?

  3. Ephraim Says:

Yeah, what BB said. If the PS3 is not curing my boredom, it’s a great thing it will atleast be able to help cure cancer.

  4. Babylinda Says:

I am for curing cancer! You cannot ever feel guilty about gaming too much! :)

  5. Justin Conte Says:

So then they don’t care about Cancer right now?

  6. Ephraim Says:

Pretty much! If you’re willing to dish out 600 for a console, the likeliness of you being generous is slim to none, in my opinion :B

Just kidding though, certainly everyone (for the most part) cares for this kind of stuff, they’re all just too lazy to do anything about it. And who can be lazier than a hardcore gamer? Now they can finally help while still being lazy.

I hope it pans out. Then jerks like jack thompson can see we are not all mindless killers.

  12. Ephraim Says:

Well… I saw the numbers and it says 30,000 PS3 owners are actually using this feature regularly. That’s not bad at all, but I hope to see the numbers go up.
