Fils-Aime - “Nintendo Is Not Arrogant”

Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that unlike Nintendo’s rivals, Nintendo views success as something that must be earned, not to be expected.
“Are we feeling good about our success? Do we think we can have more success in the future? Absolutely. I do think that highlights a difference between us and our competitors: We’re not arrogant. We don’t view success as a right. We feel we need to earn success every day. And we’re going to do that by being true to the gamer.”
Fils-Aime also told us of Nintendo’s plan to get gamers past the dry spells between big release titles,
“I do think here in the Americas we want to be a bit more strategic in how we use the titles [on Virtual Console]… If there’s a month where we don’t have a fantastic lineup of Nintendo-packaged software, that’s where I want to release a great SNES game or a great N64 game to maintain the momentum.”
Hmmm….Microsoft can learn a thing or two from Nintendo’s strategy. I mean, during the week of Sony’s and Nintendo’s launch, they released Defender on Xbox Live Arcade…. smooth move Microsoft…

Ok, Nintendo may not be arrogant now, but they were when they were on top the first time.
It’s only now, when they are on the rise again that they’re realising no-one should take consumers and their brand allegiance for granted.

I think Gears of War was still getting plenty of hype when the Wii and PoS 3 came out.

Gears of War was definitely Microsoft’s strategic move during the PS3 and Wii launch. Looking at how many 360’s they moved during that time period just on that game alone really speaks well of Microsoft’s momentum.

Um… they also released a little game you may have heard about: Gears of War.
Anyway, I love hearing this kind of stuff from Reggie. It solidifies my respect in Nintendo.

Hmm, guess I’m a little slow on the draw, there.

I love Nintendo, i do. But they are hella arrogant. “WEP is strong enough protection for anyone” - Nintendo DS. ‘We don’t care how difficult it is to use our online features’ - friend codes / Wii codes. ‘We don’t think online gaming is a big deal so we won’t even launch with it so you can’t have it.’ ‘We don’t think HD matters, or even progressive scan’ - original decision to not sell component cables in stores, underproduction of said cables.
Come on. I love Nintendo, I love their games, they have MILES to go on choosing to listen to gamers instead of telling everyone whats good for them. My two cents.

It’s funny, as soon as I got the email noticed that “SonyFTW” commented on this article, I really didn’t expect much of an intelligent response. Thanks for continuing to be a close minded gamer buddy with bad spelling.
