Extra Wii Production Delayed
Digitimes reported on Friday that sources from Taiwanese computer chip manufactures have revealed that due to a shortage of components Nintendo’s plans for increasing production of the insanely popular Wii console have been delayed.
Originally planned for a June ramp-up, Nintendo was hoping to increase production of their console significantly, in hopes of being able to meet demand for the second half of 2007. This manufacturing delay seems to spell bad news for Nintendo, as many people are now speculating that holiday 2007 will see the same high demand and low supply of Wii consoles throughout the world.
The Nintendo Wii, launched in November 2006, is still selling out across the country at break-neck speeds, with retailers unable to keep stock of the units for more than a few days. If Nintendo hopes to capitalize on the holiday rush for this year, they will need to figure something out very quickly.

It is amazing that it is still selling out. I never had much trouble getting one. Got it less than a month after it came out without ever having to wait in line. I just happened to be at Target at the right time. When we needed another for my mom’s new apartment we got one the first try last week when we went to Game Stop for something else and asked if they happened to have any. We actually got a refurbished one from them, so saved $20 on it even.

Wow. You seem to have amazing luck. I know quite a few people who are the complete opposite of you, they have been looking forever and just can’t find one.
