EA’s Rock Band - New Details

It seems our wallets can breathe a little easier. Harmonix has just released a few details about it’s upcoming game “Rock Band”. Harmonix and EA have confirmed that the standard Guitar Hero controllers will work with Rock Band, and they urge Red Octane to make the Rock Band controller compatible with Guitar Hero as well. Here are a few other details they have revealed:
- Harmonix has signed a deal with Fender Guitars. This deal signifies not only that Fender guitars will be featured exclusively in Rock Band, but that the actual Rock Band guitar controller will resemble the classic Fender “Stratocaster”.
- Harmonix has confirmed that each instrument will have an “deep, complete solo experience”. Good news for fans who were put off by Rock Band’s focus on online gameplay.
- The online component of Rock Band will be handled in a completely new way. The music genre requires precision timing, so laggy online play would ruin the experience. Harmonix states, “It’s a problem for which we have a unique solution…and it’s a heck of a lot of fun in action.”
This all sounds like great news. A guitar controller modeled after a Fender Stratocaster is so cool in itself that it might actually make you look cool while playing with it. It might, but probably not.
