Circuit City sells out of 60GB PS3

This is a somewhat sad day, as we see the passing of an old friend. Circuit City’s website has listed the 60GB PlayStation 3 as “Out of stock online“, essentially acknowledging that the console is gone. If you check store availability, some stores still have the 60GB in stock. The selling out of online stock does show that the stocks are dwindling, however. A search of the area near my home showed that only one store had the 60GB in stock, and when I called the store in question they only had a single 60GB unit.
The 60GB model, which was launched with the quickly-axed 20GB PS3 in November, 2006, saw its dominance come to a quick and uncerimonious end with the release of the 80GB model this past August.
You will be remembered, my 60GB friend. If for no other reason than full backwards compatibility, you will be remembered.
In other PS3 selling out news, Best Buy has sold out of the PlayStation 3/Guitar Hero III bundles. Perhaps a sign of future success for Sony? …doubt it, but you never know.
