Capcom to PS3 fans: Wait ’til next week.

Ok, so here’s the story: At the Capcom message boards, a user named “Kagari” asked this simple question: Since Monster Hunter 3 is now Wii-bound, does this mean the PS3 version is cancelled? This announcement, along with the removal of the game from the Capcom Japanese homepage sparked an entire debate which covered whether or not it’s exclusive, to whether or not it even exists.
Now, keep in mind that in a press release issued by Nintendo and Capcom last week, it was confirmed that Nintendo had “won an exclusive deal” which would bring Monster Hunter 3 to the Wii. Now, when you hear the word “exclusive” in a conversation about a game, and then hear “Wii”, naturally you’re going to assume that said game is exclusive to the Wii. So, why they were even having this conversation is beyond me. That’s not the story.
During the debate over the game’s future console home, a poster by the name of “Vampire_Saviour” (who, after reading the thread in its entirety, seems like a whiny child) made the following comment:
Capcom is losing fans. They obviously don’t care for their PS3-owner fans.
Personally, I can’t blame Capcom for wanting to avoid the PS3 like the plague — you want to release games on an economically viable console, like the 360 or Wii. Not one that you don’t feel you can make your money back on.
Regardless, in response to this comment, Christian Svensson, Capcom’s Senior Director of Strategic Planning & Research (they breed velociraptors, I think) responded with this somewhat cryptic message:
Let’s see how they feel at the end of next week about us.
…what is so special about next week? I assume it’s a new announcement of some sort, but what could it be? Is there something in development for the PS3 that fans will surely die for? Or did he mean this in jest, and that next week we’ll learn that the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4 has been cancelled? …that would suck. Either way, what do you think it could be, people? …hopefully it’s not a Super Puzzle Fighter port…

What do I think? I think you’re a total moron. Way to have no idea what you’re talking about, dumbass. How is 6 Million SOLD PS3’s not economically viable? Since when does spending over 1 Billion in repairs (MS and XBOX 360)become economically viable?
The PS3 is about to hit its year mark and it has outsold the Xbox 360 in its first year. Me being one of the MANY who have experienced the pains of a shitty hardware designed 360, as well as one who enjoys his well designed PS3, I can say that as soon as you stop humping Microsofts leg, the sooner you can start writing material that is worth reading.

Outsold the Xbox 360 in its first year? I guess you could make that argument, if you look at the numbers from a certain prospective, assuming the Six Million number is correct (which, it’s not).
The 360 in it’s first year of release sold roughly 5.9 million units between Q4 2005 and Q3 2006. If you throw in Q4 2006, the number skyrockets to over 10 million.
Either way, it sounds like you have my allegiances slightly skewed. While I own a 360, and I do consider it the best of the three consoles, I’m excited to see what the PS3 will do in the next year. Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune all look like top-tier titles.
Either way, next time you imply that I’m, quote, “humping Microsofts leg”… at least have your numbers straight.

And I think you might just be too dense to understand what’s going on. Releasing a game on the 360/Wii as opposed to PS3 is very economically viable. It’s doesn’t matter how much MS has paid in repairs, because it isn’t about MS. It’s about the developers. I am quite sure they have a firmer grasp on what makes them money as opposed to 99% of non-industry message board surfers.

Mainly this is about developers developing for platforms that they are more intouch with. I get that, but to assume that developers are staying away from ps3 like the plague has nothing to do with economics…I believe that it has to do with laziness and or lack of interest to learn something new. Obviously, if you’re a programmer, you want to program for a platform you’re familiar with. I believe the 360 didn’t have that great of a selection of games when it was first released…and naming 3 off the top of your head isnt an extensive list. EVERY console goes through this drought, I’m really sick of reading peoples opinion on why they think “THEIR” 360 is best over the ps3…on which they DON’T own. I own wii, 360 and a ps3, thanks to all these asshole fanboys I hate all 3! I stick with snes. Not only that but you make this tired arguement of who’s winning console wars this and that…ask yourself this…will you still be playing your favorite console in 5 years? even 10? Whats the functionality…plus chances are your 360 will crap out right after a new xbox comes out. Hope you enjoy your investment/God. I, for one, could care less about the console wars, I care more for the software in the coming years.
