Call Of Duty 4: Modern Combat Debut Trailer

by

I know you all were dying to watch the NFL draft later today in order to catch the Call of Duty 4 debut trailer, but if you really can’t wait, here it is!

After watching the trailer, I can honestly say I am simply blown away by what I saw. It’s hard not to link the Call of Duty series and World War II, but hopefully the next installment of the Call of Duty franchise will change our perspective on what a popular FPS franchise can do.

One thing though I can’t help but think is how Call of Duty is going the way of Battlefield 1942. Battlefield 1942 was set in World War II, but then EA went the “modern” route with Battlefield 2. Granted, Battlefield’s main focus has always been it’s multiplayer, but it’s still hard not to see the similarities in the progression of both series. At least in this “modern” game it seems there will be a middle eastern threat, which is a little bit more modern than having the US, MEC, China, and Euro Force duking it out.

Dang ! Blown away is right ! There are just so many games coming out with mind-blowing graphics these days. I remember how cool we thought Halo CE was with it’s awesome graphics for a console (even better than a lot of the PC games available at the time). Movies like Final Fantasy, The Spirits Within were the bar to attain for graphics in a movie, and now we have equal in a combat game a few short years later. I can’t wait for what the future has in store for gaming. I can remember playing Space Invaders as a kid and thinking that was the best ! My son’s games are gonna blow most movies of today out of the water !

  2. Alan Says:

Just a small mistake here, Battlefield 1942 was set in World War II, not WWI.

  3. BB Says:

    @Alan: Thanks! I meant “II”, but I guess I pressed just 1 “I”

  4. Andrew Says:

Nice looking trailer. I don’t know if you guys know, but the guy in the trailer was speaking Russian. Things like “We do not fear anything”,”It’s time to show what we are capable of”, “All wars are lies”.

  5. WelshCOD Says:

By GOD I MIGHT BE STONED!… But thats the most incredible gaming experience i’ve ever seen!

  6. Noel Says:

Holy crap, hahaha. That was pretty amazing. Can’t wait for it to come out!

  7. BB Says:

@Andrew: Thanks for the translation Andrew. I’m a little confused by the trailer though because the characters who speak Russian look Middle Eastern. Hopefully Activision will give us some information on the game soon so we’re not stuck scratching our heads for too long.

  11. Jeff Says:

Awesome. I hope this is what the guys at Infinity Ward have been working towards. Call of Duty was one of coolest games ever made, but both sequels were dissapointing. If they can make a game that’s just as fun, and brings just as many original gameplay mechanics to this iteration, put it on my list.

  12. Jeff Says:

They most likely are Russian. The planes flying overhead partway through the trailer are Sukhoi’s (Russian aircraft manufacturer).

  13. Marcus Says:

Now what I think would be amazing is if Activision made a decent Vietnam FPS. EA tried with Battlefield: Vietnam, but it just never had that appeal of BF1942 or BF2, because it was more of a mod than a real game. I think if COD went the way of Vietnam, it would be amazing. Especially with their skills at making a compelling single player story.

  14. Andrew Says:

The flag in the trailer is red and has a star on it. The guy is speaking Russian. I think it’s something to do with USSR. Maybe in this game Russians expended into the Middle East territories? Or some crazy communist organization sponsored by the Russians is trying to take control of the region.

  15. Richard Says:

Damn. I may have to buy myself an XBOX 360 after watching that. Graphics are that impressive.

  16. Vlad Says:

graphics r off the chain on this game

  17. greatdevourer Says:

Russians in the middle-east would probably be Afghanistan, but there’s a decade between Russian and Western intervention, so I doubt it would be that

they’re going the direction of batytlefield and ghost recon advanced warfighter, coz u play americans, U.S.M.C in some parts of the game(wich looks like GRAW, urban warfare and stuff) and brittains, S.A.S in some parts of the game (wich looks more like BF) and that for me is perfect, seriously i’ve finished the game and i would advise u all to buy it, the graphics rule and the gameplay is cool too
