Bungie Hard at Work on Next Halo Game - Halo Movie Still Not Coming

1up had a quick interview with Brian Jarrard of Bungie to get the scoop from Bungie’s side about the whole Microsoft/Bungie break up. That whole issue has been covered though, what hasn’t been is the Peter Jackson Halo game, which is now confirmed by the interview that it is what Bungie is currently working on with Jarrard letting out this:
“…Well we are already at work on another Halo game — I wouldn’t call it “Halo 4″, but it is based in the Halo Universe and represents a collaboration between Bungie and Peter Jackson. Halo 3 was definitely not the last Bungie Halo game.”
But wait!? you may ask, isn’t Peter Jackson already all tied up with other things, such as that Halo movie that isn’t coming out! You may remember the talks about Peter Jackson not wanting to work on the movie unless Neill Blomkamp was attached to the project. Well Neill has spoken out on the issue, with some interesting comments about the movie with Creativity Online saying:
“The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It’s not so much me as the entire vessel sank.”
Without him on it, Peter is not on it, but I am sure Peter has his hands full making a game and all anyways. Honestly, I think I rather have a new Bungie Halo game (FPS or not) with Peter Jackson part of it, rather than a Halo movie that would make us all have to relive not only the huge hype that Halo 3 has caused, but combined with how much hype a new Peter Jackson movie would have caused, there is no doubt in my mind that the movie would never live up to the expectations, ever.
For those looking for any light at the end of this tunnel, they also asked about if Fox/Bungie/Universal/PeterJackson/Bungie/God were to ask him back on the project:
“As I’m getting older one of the things I’ve realized most about this industry is never say never. That’s the first thing. Right now, I can’t see myself doing that film. But I’m not going to say that I’m not going to do it. So in the present moment, right now, I could take it or leave it. It doesn’t matter to me anymore. There’s too much interesting shit out there. The film has the capacity, if things line up correctly, to be, I think, really cool. But it ended up collapsing, and things happen for a reason.”

It’s too bad about the Halo Movie… although I’m not as crazy about what’s his names short films as everyone else was. Still, I figured Jackson would be able to provide enough guidance to make a kick ass flick.
