Atari Announce ‘Dragonball Z: Burst Limit’ On PS3 and Xbox 360 | Next Gen Here We Come
Dragonball Z games have been being released for longer than I have been a blogger at 451… and that seems like an eternity, no offence to my fellow writers.
And now it’s moving in to the next generation, with Dragonball Z: Burst Limit being announced for release sometime this year.
The game is being developed by Namco Bandai, obviously, and will be published by Atari.
When announcing the game, Donny Clay, producer for Atari said:
“Atari is excited and ready to offer fans the next iteration of the Dragon Ball Z video game series on the next-gen consoles. With explosive cinematic graphics and online gameplay, fans of the series and of the fighting genre will surely enjoy Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit.”
There isn’t much known about any underlying plot or game mechanics, but the game will follow the usual Dragonball fighting style. The Japanese trailer show it’s mainly a 2D affair much like the Budokai series, but with 3D effects thrown in for good measure. These are obviously intended to show the next generation machines capabilities off to their full potential.
The game is intended to be like an animé film you can control, which sounds awesome, if indeed they can pull it off. There’ll also be the now mandatory online play, with battles taking place over the Internet.
I’m a big fan of animé, Dragonball Z, and fighting games, so this seems like a match made in heaven. But I’ve had my illusions of how good a game should end up being shattered so often in the past that it’s going to be a case of wait and see with this one.
Although no release date has yet been confirmed for a North American version, and the Europeans aren’t even assured to even get it at all, it should be out in the latter part of this year.
