Red Steel 2 Confirmed To Be In The Works.

Friday, January 19th, 2007

redsteel_wii_1_qjgenth.jpg

For those of you who never played Red Steel, trust me, you missed nothing. Watching the commercials were more entertaining than playing that drivel.

On that note, Red Steel 2 has been confirmed to be in the works by the ‘Sensei’ on the Official Red Steel Enthusiast Community website. He writes:

“…if any student think he anywhere near ready for Red Steel 2…Get Ready to Do My Laundry!”

I am really hoping that Ubisoft reads up on the reviews for this game and work on the game and make it into something that everyone wishes the original Red Steel should have been. Better controls, better graphics, more swordplay with a sword that responds to your every moment and not through pre-determined movements, online multi-player! Seriously, who plays 4 player split-screen anymore? I felt like I was playing GoldenEye all over again. A sucky, unresponsive version of GoldenEye.

C’mon Ubisoft, give us the Red Steel that we were hoping for or don’t bother making a Red Steel 3!

MotorStorm Pushed Back To March

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

motorstorm.jpg

Sony’s Official Site has been advertising that Motorstorm was supposed to be released on February 26. IGN is reporting that MotorStorm has gone from a February release, to a Spring release. They contacted Sony about the push back and they had this to say,

“The team is doing some additional fine tuning and getting the online features squared away so they are taking a bit more time,” said the Sony representative. “It’ll come out in March, though we make the specific date public yet.”

The more time they take with this game, the better the experience will be. Good things come to those who wait… but damn, March?

Video: GameBoy Gets A Little Too Happy Playing Games

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

dirtygameboy.jpg

I’ve seen this video in a couple of places, but I just disregarded it, but good lord, it is truly disturbing. At first, you’ll just think I sold out and am just plugging a commercial for GoGamers.com in Omaha (now with 3 store locations!)

*ahem* Sorry about that. Now on to the video. Just watch it, and everything will come clear as to why I posted it here. I just have one thing to say, I’m never going to look at the gameboy the same again. That dirty….dirty gameboy.

Final Fantasy XIII Demo to be Released This Year

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

final_fantasy_xiii_logo.jpg

Things just got way more interesting for me. Since the article is short, I’ll post the entire thing here:

In the latest issue of Dengeki, Square Enix confirmed that a Final Fantasy XIII demo will be out sometime this year.

When questioned about the release of the demo, the Square Enix dev team stated, “‘We are hoping to have a playable demo ready for E3 in 2007.” Since E3 has been downsized as of this year, only invited studios, press, and retailers may attend the event, which may cause Square Enix to hold off a public showing until the Tokyo Game Show, for example, later this year.

Until further notice from Square Enix, we can expect the demo to appear at E3 2007.

I’ve been holding off to get a PS3 until there are about 4 must have *exclusive* titles. This is one title that I always by just because I have enjoyed every Final Fantasy I’ve ever played. So here’s hoping that this bit of news never changes.

9-Year-Old Causes Chaos Thanks to Video Games

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

steve_urkel.jpg

This story is just an incredible one. How can such a young kid cause so much havoc?

The story goes like this, Semaj Boker is only 9 years old. He lives in Washington state, but wants to move with his grandfather in Texas because he doesn’t like the neighborhood and is afraid of a sex offender who lives in the area. So, he decides to run away. Well, not actually run away, more like “steal a car” away. Police say that Semaj stole an Acura that was left running outside a neighbor’s house. Semaj was spotted on Highway 512 doing 80 to 90 mph. Semaj then took an exit, when all of a sudden his engine blew out, bounces off a curb and smacks into a tree.

When police get him out of a car, they realize who it is. Semaj is a frequent runaway and car thief. Last month he crashed a stolen car before being caught by police in Tacoma, and there was another instance in the past where he stole a car and ran out of gas.

Now, onto the most recent antic from this kid. He boarded a flight somehow without a ticket going to Phoenix. He was apprehended at the gate and taken into juvenile custody.

When the mother of the child was interviewed on how he learned how to do all this at such a young age, the article reports, “She believes he learned to drive from playing video games on a PlayStation.”

…..discuss!

Neversoft Developing Next Guitar Hero Game [Update]

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

neversoft.jpg

Before Guitar Hero, I was a huge fan of the games “Amplitude” and “Frequency”, which were both Harmonix games. I would play the “Cherry Lips” stage over and over again because of the complexity of the beats (on hard), and the songs pure addictiveness.

Well, now there are reports saying that Harmonix will not be developing the next Guitar Hero game. Instead, Neversoft (known for their Tony Hawk Pro Skater series) will be working on the next Guitar Hero game.

The question here is why would Red Octane want to switch developers when Guitar Hero already has a proven successful formula? I understand Neversoft has made some great games in the past, but they also know how to beat a dead horse. I mean, how many Tony Hawk games were just the same play mechanic with both graphical upgrades and new tracks. Nothing really ground-breaking with that series.

Let’s just hope Neversoft doesn’t mess things up with this series. Because if Guitar Hero tanks as soon as I’m starting to get into it, I’ll never buy another Neversoft game. Well, unless it’s another GTA clone…then it’s gotta be good, right?

[Via GameDaily]

[Update: GamePro.com got official word from the RedOctane reps. "Neversoft will indeed be working on the Guitar Hero franchise, though we have yet to confirm what exactly it will be." The rep goes on to say that an official announcement will be made soon.

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves Baton Holding Instructions [Update]

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

the-remote-control.JPG

Wario Ware: Smooth Moves was released to the masses on Monday and it really is a fun game. The whole premise is it throws mini-games at you that you need to complete in 5 seconds or less. The one thing that surprised me was how weird and yet funny the baton holding instructions were. I decided to take pictures of the baton holding instructions and post them here to show those of you who don’t have Wario Ware how silly they are and to give you an understanding on how the game’s mechanics work.

Check back after the break to see all of the instructions.

[Update: My apologizes to IE users. I wasn't aware how big the pictures showed up in IE. I've resized them and now they should look ok.]

Crysis Not Coming To The 360 After All

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

crysiscover.jpg

EA annoucned today that Crysis is not planned for Xbox 360. The origins of the “Crysis is coming to Xbox 360″ rumor came from the 1UP Yours weekly podcast.

In the podcast, editors claimed that during CES they had spoken to developers at Crytek who asserted that the Xbox 360 version of the game would be completely different from its PC counterpart due to the 360’s lack of Direct X10 support.

EA disputed the claim and demanded a retraction. Apparently there might have been some kind of miscommunication between the editors and the team at Crytek on the development of the game. Sounds a little fishy to me.

I don’t know what everyone’s obsession with Crysis. I mean, the videos of the game look gorgeous, but is it really going to be a game that you want to upgrade your computer for? Maybe that’s why this was such big news, even though the Crysis the 360 would have received would have been a watered down version. Anyone play Far Cry: Instincts Predator? Man, did that game blow.

Warhawk to become next Gran Turismo HD? [Update]

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

warhawk.jpg

As many of you know, Sony gave up on their Gran Turismo HD and decided to release it for free to download on the Sony store. Well, it seems that the highly anticipated Warhawk might go the way of Gran Turismo HD.

Citing an anonymous source, website Rumour Reporter has claimed that development on a “high profile title for the PlayStation 3″ has “stalled completely”, and could change from a full-fledged retail release to a chopped-up download on the PS3’s online store.

The title in question is widely assumed to be Incognito’s PS3 update of Warhawk, which has seemingly gone AWOL since it was shown in hands-on form at last year’s E3.

What’s with developers giving up on their games all of a sudden? I guess this is better than actually cancelling games. Maybe this will turn out to be the new thing to do. Instead of cancelling games, developers will put whatever they have in a nice little package, and just release it for digital download.

[Via CVG]

[Update: It looks like this rumor has been put to rest, here's a quote from the developers:

There has also been speculation flying around that Warhawk may be cancelled. We can confirm that this is categorically not true. Warhawk is currently scheduled for a June 07 release in the UK.]

Half-Life 2 Orange Box & Black Box Details

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

hl2.jpg

Valve is going to release Half-Life 2 later this year, and they’re supplying us with two different flavors of the game.

Half-Life 2: Black Box (PS3, Xbox 360)
Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, Team Fortress 2
Price: $39.99

Half-Life 2: Orange Box (PS3, Xbox 360)
Contains: Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal, Team Fortress 2
Price: $59.99

This is a great idea since a lot of people played Half Life 2 and HL2: Episode One already. They can just buy the Black Box and pay a reduced price for the next episode with Portal and Team Fortress 2. One thing I’m wondering though is how will the achievements be effected on these separate flavors? Will there be not as many achievement points in the Black Box than the Orange Box? Looks like achievement whores have something to ponder.

Crackdown Demo Delayed Till Late January

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

crackdown4.jpg

The rest of my week as officially been ruined. IGN is reporting that the Crackdown demo that was supposed to be available on Thursday has been delayed. The reason behind the delay is due to the entire Microsoft certification process. Why was a press release sent out last month that the game was supposed to come out exactly on Jan. 18th? Your telling me even with a month’s notice Microsoft is still unable to complete the certification process fast enough to get this demo out by the promised date?

Thanks Microsoft. You guys once again made things so complicated that you screwed up the rest of my week with this news.

Come back after the jump to read the official statement from Microsoft:
