I Love Top Ten Lists

Henry Lowood, the curator of the Stanford University History of Science and Technology Collections, released his list of the 10 most important video games of all time. In modern days, video games have taken a great importance in culture and science, particularly in Europe and North America. Here’s their choices:
Spacewar! (1962)
Star Raiders (1979)
Zork (1980)
Tetris (1985)
SimCity (1989)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (1990)
Civilization I / II (1991)
Doom (1993)
Warcraft (Series) (1994)
Sensible World of Soccer (1994)
Here’s my choices for the 10 most important games of all time:
Spacewar! (1962) -This is pretty much where it all started
Pong (1972) -Pong pretty much invented home gaming
Pac-Man (1980) -I can’t believe they skipped this one
Dragon’s Lair (1983) -Years ahead of itself
King’s Quest (1983) -The first great adventure game
Super Mario Brothers 3 (1990) -Pretty much the best Mario game ever
John Madden Football (1990) -The most important sports franchise ever
Sonic The Hedgehog (1991) -The game that stole Nintendo’s crown
Doom (1993) -An obvious pick
Halo (2001) -Symbolized the next generation in online warfare
You may or may not agree with my list ,but what does some Princeton nerd know anyway?

I would have put Mario 64 on at least one of these lists. It was just one of those games you saw for the first time, and just said “Wow”.

I can agree, Mario 64 was a big game.

I agree with Madden for what it has brought to the industry, But with the way EA makes games now it is less important now than it ever has been it is just a monopoly and rehashed game every year. I do like Halo on your list too, Even though I haven’t been a fan thus far but I am going to try and jump into it on this upcoming installment

Any list like this needs to have NFL 2k1 for Dreamcast on it. It was the first online sports game for a console.

How does being the first online sports game for a console justify being on a list of the top 10 most important games of all time?

I’m not sure myself. Now I will say NFL 2k1 kicked Madden’s ass. It was really a shame that EA grabbed that exclusive deal with the NFL, because 2k was just around the corner from being the best football franchise out there. The new 2k football game coming out this year looks really awesome.. personally I don’t care if the teams and players are fake.. I will be checking it out.

Star Fox 64 would def. be in my top ten. In fact, it just might be the only game on there.

Mario 64 brings back a lot of memories… I was pretty much the worst person ever at collecting stars =/ But the game was definitely awesome… so many childhood memories x_X Super Smash, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye, Mario Party! Mmmmm
