10 Most Dissapointing Games of ‘08
Wired recently published their list of the top ten most disappointing games of ‘08. There weren’t many surprises on the list, except for maybe Dead Space. I wouldn’t say it was disappointing so much as it didn’t really end up living up to the horror aspect. There’s also the atrocious lack of Wii Music, but maybe they hadn’t anticipated that one as much as the other games on the list.
Here’s the list in full, but you have to go to the site to read their reasoning behind their picks:
10. Age of Conan (PC)
9. Tom Clancy’s EndWar (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC)
8. Too Human (Xbox 360)
7. Stalker: Clear Sky (PC)
6. Mirror’s Edge (Xbox 360, PS3)
5. Dead Space (Xbox 360, PS3)
4. Prince of Persia (Xbox 360, PS3)
3. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)
2. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Xbox 360, PS3)
1. Spore (PC)
Personally, I didn’t have that many big gaming disappointments as I’m pretty careful about what games I buy. I look pretty closely at review scores from several different sources and I tend to stay away from games that have traditionally bad like movie tie-ins or most super hero games. Gone are the days where I’d buy into the advertising mechanizations of a corporate giant only to end up super pissed off that a game didn’t live up to their promise.
What kind of thought do you put into a game before you purchase it? What do you put more weight in? Review scores, word of mouth, or other? Or do you buy games indiscriminately and hope for the best? If you do, I wish I had your kind of money.
